about what you would expect. the steelers gave up more sacks that happened in less than 3 seconds than most teams gave up at all. on the other hand, 8 sacks were allowed against 4+ man rushes more than 4 seconds into a play, which can be pinned on Ben. Other elite QBs probably don't allow more than 4-5 of these per year.

mahan/simmons was a completely disastrous portion of our line, and colon was about replacement level at RT. faneca wasn't good, but he was also our 2nd best after Marvel Smith.

Couple Hammer's comment with ZERO chemistry and it's the ideal recipe for disaster. It only takes one blown assignment to give up a quick sack.

but they are also the sacks that are the least problematic.

he doesn't give the stats, but in general you expect sacks from OTs being beaten to take longer than sacks from IOL being beaten; going right up the middle takes far less time than "running the big circle" out and around the tackle and then coming back. if you look at the 30 <3 second sacks, I'm sure they are dominated by IOL missed blocks and 'no one assigned'.

also for RT sacks, the QB can see them coming (unlike LT sacks), and can step up in the pocket (unlike IOL sacks). if people are coming up the middle, you can't step up and so it's dangerous to even try to throw the ball away. also, a bad IOL makes the RT look bad, because if they get pushed back, then the QB can't step up out of danger.

Those statistics are unacceptable. A professional line should be able to handle a 4-man rush most of the time and the Stillers gave up their most sacks against 4-man rushes. That is pitiful.

And you cannot blame Ben because most came <3 seconds. I can understand 5+ rushers getting to the QB, but 4-man rushes should not create that much pressure.

...ummm, no it can't be "pinned on Ben", douche...

Pin it on Arians for calling the plays that took way too long to develop, and not trusting Ben to audible until way too late in the season.
All too often, this is what left BigBen like a sitting duck behind our porous OLine.

He never got it until very late in the season (2nd half of the playoff heartbreak, if memory serves...) that we needed many more quick-hitting pass plays to make up for that crappy O-Line play.

Let's hope that this year he's learned his lesson way before the start of the season...
