It was no accident that Ben let the world know...that HE called the plays in the 2nd half...and HE suggested the no-huddle offense that changed the tempo of the game.

Good for him. Arians is a total liability. It's one thing to get your ass kicked the week prior (Philly)....but quite another to attempt the same shit that didn't work before...

The media will not address it....they'll throw Tomlin more "softballs" at the next press conference.

Too bad...we could really use some innovation from the OC position.

I think the ex-coach of the Rams Lindham or whatever would be a great OC (apparently his offenses were never worse than 4th in the league). But, he might not jibe with our mindset.

Ben didn't take a shot at OC he was just frustrated at the offense's performance in the first half and was looking to spark the team. Ben's becoming a leader. I'm no Arians fan either I just don't know what our offensive identity is. Are we a running team or a passing team? West coast? Smash mouth? Scott Linehan is now available. I say if the offense continues to struggle we consider him as Bruce's replacement. Daunte Culpepper had his best years under him in Minnesota.

It is amazing that all of the innovation of the past is gone. Other than Ben running for his life and making an occasional big play on his own ability, we do NOTHING creative or innovative to give our players an advantage on offense. The screens of the past -- like the ones the Ravens ran successfully last night -- are gone. The creative formations using our unique talents are gone. The two back running game that was supposed to be the heart of the offense is gone. Mendenhall never got the ball in two of the first three weeks and now he is on IR.

I cannot believe we actually won last night. It was a testament to pure grit. You could tell in the first half that Ben knew we had no O-Line and so did the Ravens. Every game this year for Ben looks like it will be a variation of Kobe against the Celtics. There will be three or four defenders hanging on his every move, and yet he is still supposed to make plays despite getting little help. Too tall an order.

I would love to be an optimist, but I think we were relying on our off-season acquisitions to be really improved. Those would be as follows:

Draft: Mendenhall IR; Sweed Inactive (looks at least a year away); Davis Inactive; Hills Inactive (probably should have been cut); Humpal IR; Dixon Inactive; and I am sure I am missing someone. Overall, NO HELP. Nice job front office.

The Hartwig acquisition is like picking up a utility infielder to fill your gaping hole at third base. He may help a bit, but only because the other options are worse.

We lost our fourth WR from last year and got no one that can help in return. With Mendenhall hurt, we are probably worse now at RB without Davenport. Moore is a nice, nifty third down guy but that is worth only so much.

Isn't it amazing how the Ravens made their rookie draft pick actually look decent for most of the game against our defense while we barely made our offense look okay? They are running the type of offense we ran when we won the Super Bowl and went 15-1. Food for thought, huh?

Thank goodness the bye week is coming.

I agree with Steelwest and the originator of this thread. The only reason we have won the games we have is that we are playing weak teams that are problem prone right now. We witnessed first hand what an assbeating we got put to us when matched up with a good team. Changes have to be made because after last nights performance it is my opinion that our season is doomed anyway.

You won't get an argument from me. I really don't look for Arians to be around much longer if our offense continues to deteriorate. It was reported on ESPN during last night's pre-game that Tomlin chewed out Arians after the loss to the Eagles, and that he told Arians in no uncertain terms that if things don't improve offensively in the very near future, Arians will be fired. That's why Arians took full responsibility for the Steelers' loss to the Eagles last week. I don't know whether that's true or not, but I hope it is. So what happens last night? Arians blows it once again and Ben has to take things into his own hands to win the game. I wouldn't be upset if Arians was fired immediately. Things can't get any worse without him, can they?

it was Tony Corn-holer that was talking about this during pre-game, and it's been obvious for some time that this clueless dipshit doesn't know what he's talking about.
...HOWEVER...
Somebody on a different thread said it was actually Chris Mortensen that reported on the "discussion" between Tomlin and Arians, and that it might actually have some validity.

If it's true, then Tomlin would go a long way to gain a lot of confidence among Steeler Nation in him as the leader and HC if he recognizes and addresses the issue with a firing like this.

If he once again proves to be a lot of talk and no action, he will only erode that confidence even more, like with the pre-draft promise to "get some youth on both of these lines..."

So the cat's out, it's now on him to follow through with action or risk an even shakier standing among Steeler faithful...

P.S. Anybody know how to find where Mortensen or anybody else reported on this "conversation"? If it's just rumor or conjecture, then it's worthless. If it's valid, I'm sure folks here would love to read and discuss about it.

I agree Steelerette...Arians on short leash and needs to go but how did things get so bad so fast?? Ben made pro-bowl last year and set franchise record 32 td passes despite getting sacked 47 freaking times! Colbert needs to be held accountable for not upgrading the OL. Hartwig hardly better than Mahan and Kemo no Faneca. Larry porn needs to be fired even before Arians he's the joker coaching this crap line.

I disagree that it's "so bad so fast", and I think you answered that one for yourself indirectly.
Ben's making the pro-bowl was also in spite of Arians' inabilities and crappy OL play, making it that much more impressive.
But a few of us were calling out Arians and the OL since last year's fiascos against the Cardinals and the Jets, and those problems never improved after that.

Colbert needs to be held accountable for not upgrading the OL.

I couldn't agree more, especially after Tomlin promised an infusion of youth on BOTH lines and Colbert went and made him look like a buffoon on draft day...

Larry porn needs to be fired even before Arians he's the joker coaching this crap line.

They both need to go. While Zeirlein (sp?) doesn't have much to work with, he's doing a pretty piss poor job with he has.
That said, it's up to Arians to recognize the weakness in the OL and start off with a much more fitting game plan that can be adjusted as needed. You know, quicker passes like slants to a slot WR or a 5-yard in route to the TE or more HB screens...something to help keep the blitz packages in check and relax the LOS for a struggling OL.

But no, he keeps ignoring our problem areas and calling uneven bunch sets , spread sets , and empty backfield shotgun plays that take all day to develop.
Those plays might be great, mind you, but once a D figures them out they're easy to defend and Ben never has that kind of time.

Arians hasn't once demonstrated that he has a clue, and his unimaginative, one-dimensional fuckup has nearly gotten our franchise star QB killed more than once in the process.
