Wallace
Saw an article that Mike Wallace might be wearing another uniform next year, due to cap reasons. I wonder what the level of truth to this is. I had heard they wanted to keep him but apparently he might be a cap sacrifice.
The Steelers have had a pretty solid record of who to keep and who to zoom, receiver-wise. Kept Ward, let Burress chase the money. Let Randle-El chase the money. Let Nate Washington chase the money. Broomed Santonio, who seemed to be able to keep things mostly under control as a Steeler, but by all accounts is locker room poison as a Jet.
Seemed to me Wallace's performance dropped off 2nd half of the season. True, or did he just get covered more allowing AB to shine? Did he ever become more than a one trick pony beyond his speed? Dropped a few catchable passes. We will have Sanders more next year. We still have Cotchery. We have Ward if we want, most likely.
It's a rough call for me. Doubtless some idiot team will be willing to pony up more than he's worth (calling Dan Snyder....). But at the same time, the guy has earned a big paycheck (at least by NFL standards). Will the Steelers get this call right as they have with other WR's? Let's hope so. I believe we'd get a fairly high draft pick as comp for his leaving?
Anybody closer to home know what's going on? Other opinions?

Re: Wallace
Cotchery is also a free agent, so we may well not have him for the upcoming season.
He'd like to sign a multiyear deal, but as a #3 or #4 receiver, the the Steelers will likely not be offering him as much money as he can get elsewhere.
One thing to take note of: There are a LOT of good wide receivers hitting the free agent market this offseason. That might help curb the demand for Mr. Wallace just a little bit.
I expect the Steelers will give Wallace the RFA tender ($2.5-$3 million for the upcoming season). Then, if another team comes along and signs him away from us, they will have to give us their first-round draft pick.

Re: Wallace
A co-worker informed me of this the other day, and I thought he was mistaken. Guess not. I would think The Steelers would not let this happen by releasing more players that are in the twilight of their careers; I.E.- Farrior, Hampton, and if it comes to it, Hines. If not, as mentioned, someone will owe The Steelers their 1st Round Pick, and then the team will look to replace him, either on The F.A. Market or in The Draft. Hopefully, it won't come to that, though.
