Posts being modified by Mods / Mill - Very Disappointing

Postby stillcello » Thu Feb 17, 2011 3:15 am

It seems that some posts have been modified by the mods/mill of late, changing other people’s posts, and in my opinion, mis-representing their original thoughts. I wanted to comment if I may.

In my opinion as someone who has been visiting this site since 2001, and has written numerous articles for this site over the years, and who has always tried to promote this site to friends and fans, I feel this this is an extremely unfair practice that goes way beyond the normal vitriolic disagreements that have been and can be both informative and entertaining.

What is the point of editing a post vs. deleting it? Isn't it more fair to delete a post vs. misrepresenting a person's commentary by attributing your words/thoughts/opinions to their name? I would say it would be fair to delete posts for being rude or name calling, but since you and other posters that agree with you engage in that practice on such a regular basis, it seems that should be accepted from all.

How does the practice of changing people's posts make this is better, more informative, more entertaining, etc, website?

I ask other posters out there: Does anyone view this practice as a positive for the site?

Perhaps it might be better to not offer discussion forums if posters cannot view their opinions without the chance of it being deemed 'hogwash', and then removed or even much worse, edited. Maybe make this a blog site instead or something.

You say you have the *right* to do these things, and of course you do, but just know it's a complete disappointment for me and perhaps many other regulars here on stillers.com, many of which agree with you most of the time. I for one *want to hear* all the 'hogwash' from other posters if only to have different points of view presented. If this 'hogwash' is so far 'off the mark', then your arguments, and others, will reveal it to be patent BS soon enough.

But one of the entertaining parts of forums like this is to hear all the disagreements and debates being made by all the posters, not just to have one opinion being supported and then other’s opinions to be modified.

You can tell me I’m full of BS of course, but I would hope you’d value the opinion of your more frequent and loyal visitors and contributors here at stillers.com and at least consider our viewpoints.

Thank you

I think it's hilarious. I love to see the candy asses whine and bawl when it gets done to them. We all should be given the ability to alter anyone else's posts, then this place would turn into a real Moose picnic.

Cello is spot on. When anyone calls Mill out on his bullshit, he either changes the poast or deletes it all together. That's definitely the fastest way to kill a site. I used to love this place. Now its mill and 5 people washing his balls after every article. You fearless leader has turned into a child who refuses to recognize differing opinions.

BTW, I have been sent my first and only warning via PM, that I will be banned if I ever call him out again.

I'm not sure how much was altered, but the changing of the link to some gay site was pretty damn funny.

The content of posts shouldn't be changed though. I don't agree with this. Then again, this seems to be a very short-term aggressive move toward one, or maybe two, particular people. So, I wouldn't worry about it too much unless this becomes standard practice.

All parties involved are being childish - not just Mill, but it's still kinda funny.

If some posters here hate it so bad, then I have to ask; Why are you still here?

Maybe because they want to save this site. If posters left without saying anything, then this site would just die a quicker death. This used to be a good site and when people use their powers to alter posts because they disagree with the content then they are distroying the integrity of this site. SteelMill talks about this site "leading the way", I do not see it anymore. How can you consider a site that is willing to sacrifice its own integrity as a site that leads the way? Heaven forbid you actually say something POSITIVE about the STEELERS on this site without being cursed at and be called less than a real fan. Do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being critical about our STEELERS from time to time, but all the time?!?!?!? I feel like that I am watching a virtual version of Necessary Roughness (I believe that I have refered to the correct movie) where the two "fans" are sitting in the crowd, bitching and moaning every game even though their team is winning.

I do not expect anyone to change their outlook on life or the STEELERS but acceptance of other people's opinions is very doable.

What happened to Steelhammer? I remember for the longest time he was pretty much carrying this site by himself.

I'm still here. It's a busy time of year for me, and I haven't been on this site much since the Super Bowl. I checked in today to find this mess. It is disappointing.

First let me say, Mills articles are the reason for the majority of stillers.com's visitors.
That said:
I disagree with him calling out individual posters, and we have talked about it in the past.

that said:
if you are going to call out individual posters and Start arguments, you've got to be able take it as good as you give it.
Also,
If you are going to be a writer, and you choose to publish your work. You better have thick skin cause people are going to disagree. When you've been doing it as long as Mill has, and you've been right as much as he has been, you'd think he'd feel less of a need to defend his work.

IMO: Very rarely should a post be modified or deleted.
Basically only when a rule is violated as detailed on our policy forum.

For the record, I have not deleted, or modified a post on this site in some time.
Having not seen the posts that where recently deleted or modified, I can not judge whether they fell into this catagory or not.

IMO: Banning should be even rarer. reserved for those that repeatedly violate the few rules, (though a single violation of threatening someone or revealing an identity is enough) or have somehow attacked the site itself.

StillCello has been deactivated/banned

Hammer,

I totally agree that you have to have a thick skin here on the site, which is part of what makes this site unique and fun.

I think the posts that were modified... one was arguing against some of Mill's points and also calling mill some names as well, but nothing worse than what Mills calls some others on here. The other post was a short post that express some agreement with the original post. Both posts were modified. There might have been more but I'm not on here much.

Regarding banning.... Stillcello is a friend of mine he let me know that HIS ACCOUNT HIS BEEN DEACTIVATED soon after he started this thread! Cello has done some good stuff on this site and perhaps you can speak StillMill 'bout this as it does not appear that Cello broke any rules(?)

Anyways, thanks for the shout out and go steelers!!

Cello's account has not been deactivated.

NOW, we did ban some IPs that earned a ban, and if Cello was playing clever games by posting as 2 different people, then he may have bit the dust.

If any of mine got modified, or deleted, no big deal. I've posted some rants after games the Steelers should have won. If the Mods deem that my language was a bit off, then they're doing their jobs.

It's not banned now, obviously, but I did notice last month (I don't know the exact date) that my IP was banned and I honestly have no clue why. I was able to access the site via my phone and noticed I wasn't banned from the board though. Anyway, I wouldn't come to this site and convey my opinions from time to time if I couldn't handle criticism, or take what I dish out. I hope this forum keeps going.

S&B, my IP add was banned for a while, and I hadn't posted for some time. And I have never been critical of anybody (at least not intentionally). Could be just one of the myriad technical problems this board has had - and that's not a criticism, every free board I frequent has had technical issues of one sort or another. Anybody who bitches about FREE sites maintained by others effort and $ is f'n nuts!

I'm not sure what was going on for the last month. I also recieved the messages you are describing, from multiple locations/IP's.

If it's Mill, I truely hope he stops. If it's the technology, well... nothing i can do.

Bottom line:
glad it's back up for the draft.
