Off Season Rules Changes.

Postby Ed Burns » Sun Mar 20, 2011 2:29 pm

I just read in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that the League Competition Committee is discussing yet more rules changes that are, according to the League, gonna reduce the Concussion possibilities by decreasing Kick returns, and increasing Touchbacks on Kick Offs. I'll post the link to the article. Other issues will be ramping up penalties on violent hits, etc... Here's the Link:

Once again, I believe certain changes will affect the Steelers, and their physical style of play, and give further advantages to finesse style Media darling teams like the Patsies, or the Colts. This is all provided that we actually see games this year because of the Lockout. Goodell's intent on making this game a bland vanilla game by taking the violent hits out of it. I guess the fact it's a collision sport means nothing to him. Besides, Goodell, and his Corporate cronies tried hide a stipulation from the players, to make the League $4 Billion this year without even playing a game. Goodell's still a tool in my mind, and needs to be ousted immediately.

What are you talking about? This rule favors the Steelers in every way imaginable. Now instead of teams returning to their 40 or better, one of our crappy kickers MIGHT (key word) be able to boot it into the endzone. I'll take them at the 25 any day rather than holding my breath.

I didn't see it like that on Kick Offs... That might benefit the Steelers more so I guess. When was the last Season where we had a kicker kick more than 3 Touchbacks the entire Season?

But I was talking about the League ramping up the penalties on what they deem as violent illegal hits, or late hits on the QB. Will they call hits that are a split second late, as in just a millisecond after the QB finishes the throw? We've all seen Ben get popped well after a throw, and no call. See the 2008 AFC Title game when Ben got sandwiched as an example, along with a bunch of hits from this past Season. If that was Brady, or Manning, then the Defenders would've been penalized. The PG Article covered the changes in the Kickoff game, but glossed over the part about the League Ramping up penalties on violent hits.

More proposals...

Rules proposed to keep quarterbacks healthy might curtail the performance of those quarterbacks who wiggle out of the grasp of defenders to keep a play going long enough to make something good happen. Under new proposed rules, many of those Roethlisberger escapes could be blown dead by an official. The old "in the grasp" whistle that became so unpopular in the NFL is making its way back, and that's not conducive to the way Roethlisberger plays the game.

When Big Ben is involved the "New Rules" mean squat---as was the case when he took the Haloti "Hulk Smash" to the snot locker :suahhbs:
