It's always humorous how this site becomes the focal point for discussion at OTHER boards. Stillers-com -- We lead; others follow.
And, having said that, we could give a limp dick from LeBeau jack-fuck as to what some faggot-fucks at some jackoff message board might be saying. Never have, never will.

Mill, are you really a 13 year old boy. You write like one. Why not throw a couple racial slurs in while you are at it.

The title of this thread is "LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!" yet all of the Lebeau haters have yet to come up with an alternative DC. If you're going to argue that he needs replaced then at least come up with a name you would replace him with! I'm all for criticism of the team when warranted, but if you're going to make a statement like that at least back it up.

Dom Capers. Although "he" gave up a long pass in a Steelers championship game 17 yrs ago and "he" let Hanie almost come back against the packers last week - so the Packers should fire him too.
No sense trying to extract conventional logic out of them SoCal.

Yeah and Caper's 'D' gave up more than 500 yds to Ben & company when they met last year. I guess Capers sucks too.

The fact that you think NOBODY else could do a better job than LeBeau is laughable. How about ANYONE with even a rudimentary knowledge of the sport? Hell, even the players themsleves could do a better job. Oh wait, they did when they actually had to tell The Defensive Guru that letting an invalid like Flacco sit back in the pocket was FUCKING MORONIC,...And they were RIGHT. Of course I made this point in the thread before. Maybe you would've saw it if you moved Dickie's balls out of your face...

how about we stick to sound analysis and fact (statistics) as a basis for argument rather than just name calling and bashing anyone who might disagree with your point of view. this thread is why this site has lost so many posters the last few years. it seems as though no one is really a steeler fan as much hate as they receive on this board.

Dude seems very angry. There is still some intelligent discussion and good analysis to be found here. You just have to ignore the angry trolls. Have a nice day!

We don't think NOBODY could do a better job... or at least I don't, but we'd like to hear some viable alternative candidates and then we could analyze their performance vs. LeBeau's based on the players they have, etc.
Saying the players could do a better job based on one news story/one instance that we actually were privledge to find out about (I'm sure there are many player/coach discussions/pleadings that we don't) from this year is also not really a great basis of judgement as there may have been many instances where the players suggested something to LeBeau and the players ended up being wrong.
Unfortunately, most people with a 'rudimentary knowledge of the sport' will not realistically have a chance to actually be hired for a NFL DC job, but so why don't we talk about people that actually have chance at replacing LeBeau, like other NFL DCs, linebacker coaches, DB coaches, or college head coaches for example.
Saying that anyone with a 'rudimentary knowledge of the sport' would be an improvement is not helpful since there is no way to know if you are really right or not since 99.999% of that group will never coach in the NFL.
To me, the best way to judge Dick's performance is comparing him to other current and former DCs to see how they fared with some possible metrics like:
1) Super Bowl / Playoff wins
2) Points Allowed
3) Yards Allowed
4) Situational / In-Game decisions
If we did this analysis, how many of these coaches could you also judge harshly based on decision making / scheming / situational / etc??
My guess is most if not all of them.
Its seems that almost every coach out there seems to make some boneheaded decisions from time to time...if you look at their track records (just look at Ryan, Belichick from this playoffs and I'm sure you could find some...).... and because of that, it's my opinion that coaching must be much harder than it looks and there are many factors at play (in-game and otherwise) that perhaps us fans are not privvy to, etc. and that perhaps we will never be privvy to.
That is why I don't think we need to get rid of LeBeau NOW.... until I hear of a candidate that will do a better overall job.
Again, which other DC out there would fare better if we here at stillers.com did a full, stern evaluation on them? Perhaps there are a few... let's find them as Dickie is 73 and can't be around much longer....
I heard Keith Butler is a good candidate if Dick retires.... what do we know about him?

This is what sensible people have been asking the author of the thread to present since the first few posts. Instead of responding with intelligent, or at least interesting dialogue he just comes back with directionless angry sarcasm.
Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
We've been down this road NUMEROUS times. Long before, we've heard the feeble cries of "who could possibly replace Chuck Noll?" Why, a fellow named Cowher, who had NEVER been a head coach at ANY level.
Then, the feeble-fuk cries became, ""who could possibly replace Billy Cowher?" Once again, a TOTAL unknown, and a guy who had NEVER been a head coach, Mike Tomlin, replaced The Great Billy Cowher. 2 sup Bowl appearances later (in only 4 years), the asinine question of "who could possibly replace Billy Cowher" has been answered.
We're not talking about replacing the lead engineer on the next NASA space shuttle. It's merely hiring a def. coordinator of a defense that has more talent, pedigree, depth, and experience than ANY defense in the NFL. Pee Wee Fuking Herman could run this defense and they'd still finish around # 9 or 10 in the NFL.

Then why fire Lebeau? We finish #1-3 with him. Why take the chance to drop to 10th or worse. I know he is fallible, every coach on every team is from game to game. Sure, we might find someone who could make the D a little better but we run a greater risk of finding someone who could do worse.
Steelers dropped in defense when Woody left and was replaced by Tony Dungy. Granted Dungy was faced with losing almost an entire squad of aging hall of famers and pro-bowlers. But Haslett was no special find. and we know the Tim Lewis story. Capers and Lebeau are two people you don't want to lose if you can avoid it. The Bears would be foolish to fire Marinelli because they lost the Championship game. Think of the mess we have had at losing offensive coordinators.
I do understand what you are getting at. Heck, you have been drilling it for 3 years. You act like us pro-Lebeauers think he is without question. Wrong. But your approach is that Lebeau is stopping us from winning games yet alone, lets say, Super Bowls.
We don't like the corners playing off 10 yards any more than you do, but the steelers defense is one of the best at halting big plays this season because of these types of philosophies. And Dick flexed this philosophy this season to allow Ike to play up on the reciever (something you say Lebeau doesn't do). Last seaon we did give up a lot of late season TDs/points for losses. But his year we didn't do that. Last season the Packers defense was horrible - the year before that they were great and this year they are phenomenal - only bested by the Steelers. There is variation in every team - it is a matter of keeping consistency over the long haul, like Lebeau has accomplished.

This same defense that includes players that you roast on a weekly basis like Ryan Clark, Casey Hampton, Lamarr Woodley, Bryant McFadden, and James Farrior?
So is their defensive ranking a basis for success then? How have the Steelers been doing in that department? I'm not sure what the 'ceiling' for this defense is, but neither do you, despite arguing for or against in-game scheming decisions.
Noll and Cowher were head coaches, and you could argue that in order to be a successful head coach, you need to win championships. Noll went a decade without sniffing one, and then Cowher had all those chances through the 90's and 01 and could not seal the deal...until he finally got a big time QB who he finally allowed to throw the ball in the 05 playoffs... so I don't think the comparison is apples to apples really. Those head coaches, but a very tangible standard (championships) had failed for a sustained period of time.
Lebeau has been around the past 5 years when the Steelers have had more success. Now you can postulate all kinds of perspectives on why that is or isn't true and you could make arguments that Lebeau had little to do with that. What you cannot do, however, is point to some specific measurement, record, ranking, or other objective basis for judgement and say and he has been a failure.
I think my comments are even more compelling becuase I'm NOT a huge fan of LeBeau....but rather I just don't think it as easy to fairly judge NFL coaches as it's sometimes purported to be on this site..and almost all other fans sites to be fair : )
And despite your claim that we have the most talent, depth, and pedigree on defense in the NFL, this is still a salary cap era and therefore *perhaps* some credit might go to the DC for helping develop the talent you see on the field.
I'm fairly confident that there are a lot of aspects of coaching that we don't know much about when it comes to fairly judging coaches.... which is why I don't think, us, as fans really can completely judge NFL coaches completely.
*****
So no replacement suggestions then? Just the suggestion to fire him or pointing out that he's just adequate and overrated? If he's just adequate, and we continue to have success in the post-season, then I think you are taking a big risk by replacing him. If we are failing already (see - 1982-2004), then you take less of a risk with major personnel changes.
Maybe he is overrated... but that's kind of meaningless to me as I don't care how a coach or player is currently perceived unless that affects whether he stays or goes and I'm sure that's not the case.

and how about Colbert? (I know stillcellow wasn't ignoring him purposely: this isn't aimed at him). He should get credit as well but he gets even more lambasted here. What is the recurring theme - "he shit the bed". Colbert has been there since 2000 and drafted that defense. I think the only player he is not responsible for is Aaron Smith but didn't he resign him twice?
