How much does Aron Smith contribute to our pass rush?

Postby SteelThatDon'tRust » Sat Nov 06, 2010 7:22 pm

All the flap is about stuffing the run when Smith is out, but that was not a problem in Miami or NO. How much does Smith do for the pass rush then? I confess I haven't really noticed how much DL relies on the ends for pressure and disruption. But is this part of the reason we have NO pass rush WHATSOEVER?

I don't think Smith contributes a ton to the pass rush. I think that he is however huge in the run game...I think the reason that we haven't had any pressure in the NO or MIA game is that both of their pass games are primarily quick hitter, dink and dump pass games (NO in second half) and that makes it tough to get pressure on the QB...

The problem with this is that of the other contenders in the AFC many of them fit under the category of quick hitter pass games...(Baltimore since the addition of Rice, New England since losing Welker, Indy all the time is capable of it). It's difficult to get pressure on the QB when they run three step drops and ball is out all the time. Our D wasn't made for us to not have pressure
