He has to be the worst Commissioner the NFL has ever had.

This guy is determined to have a lock out in 2011 then blame the players.

This fine is just way too extreme for any player, and yes I would say it even if it was a Pittsburgh Player that was put down on that play. I really hope that this commissioner does not last much longer with these types of decisions coming down from New York - this shit sucks. I say that the Rooneys should go to bat for Harrison over this deal, it's just not right at'all.

So I've already posted regarding my displeasure with the Cribbs hit, but nonetheless:
WTF?!

You fine him and THEN turn around and make money off the offense?
You asked with your eyes Trent, you asked with your eyes.

I do not blame old Silverback for wanting to retire after getting a 75K fine. What's the point, it not football as we know it or grew up watching if you can't hit someone as :sufu: hard as you can. It really has become a pansy league drowning in estrogen from the NFL front office. :sufu:

Anyone who has actually played football knows that it's nearly impossible to avoid any helmet to helmet contact when you have to players moving toward a point of impact. There are too many variables with both players moving and adjusting before they collide. Most of the people in the media, including the blogosphere, that decry Harrison the loudest never played the game beyond midgets.

Steve Young brought up a good point that encouraging a big-play passing ethos sets up the biggest hits. The NFL caused this problem for themselves.

Harrison was paid big bucks to attack :!: It makes little sense that the league would take away his money for being very effective in earning it. :? Thanks to Rodney Harrison's comments during football night in America people have been brainwashed that the league needs to be more strict about hitting. Rodney was not just any cheap shot artist, but THE cheap shot artist of his time. Ironically the only real Rodney Harrison salute(cheap shot) in week 6 came via his replacement in New England, Brandon Meriweather. The other hits should have only been considered devastating football plays.

It's not fair to punish players for playing physical. Players get paid lots of money for the risks they take on every play. If guys currently in the league don't want that risk any more, I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to accept it. As a defender, James Harrison is supposed to punish opponents who come into his zone. It's his job to splatter receivers, destroy running backs, intimidate quarter backs and make sure the offensive coordinator finds somewhere else to earn yards.

Over protecting the players sends a terrible message. It's almost as if the league is trying to hide or erase the violence which has made the sport so popular. When big, strong, fast athletes are competing at a high level in an effort to win it is rather pathetic to expect them not to engage in dangerous collisions.

Its all about the QB hanging their receivers out to dry. What must happen is

1) no fines if there was no penalty. (so upcoming off season the rules committee will have to look at this - none of this making it up shit in the middle)
2) The QB coaches are going to have to start giving the 2nd and 3rd stringers some snaps and breed these type passes out of them.

Its horseshit, is what it is. It seems like if the media shows a violent hit over and over again, no matter legal or not you will get fined for it. There was no flag on the play against VY yet because it made the highlight real and they played it over and over and over again, sure enough he gets a fine, even though he was one of THREE players who combined for the tackle. It's such bullshit. Then you got guys like ray lewis who lay almost an identical hit against the jet's dustin keller, obviously a much bigger guy than massaquoi, but still the same blindside violent collision while the ball is being bobbled, and he gets nothing but praise from the announcers and everyone around the league. If he laid the same hit on massaquoi, I'm certain the outcome would of been the same as when James hit him. But would he be getting fined? Nahhhh probably not, because he's the double-murderer turned minister NFL good guy. Such a touching story. James doesn't have some fake persona he puts on, he is a mean man on the football field. So his comments and hits become vilified, and the league reacting to the pat's harrison saves face blows up the fines and threatens suspensions. Yeah that'll fix things commish. Now what you'll see are career ending injuries to guys getting their hips and knees blown out. I hope this weekend Jamie comes out and breaks a guy's leg (not really) but at least to point out what kind of message the league is sending.
