Re: Harrison's hit on Cribbs.
I can agree that Deebo went in and dived at the RB already going down, and though I hope no injuries happen when he plays with that aggressive style, he created a fumble on the play and I'm not sure I would ask him to change. I went back and reviewed the Massaquoi hit to see if I remembered it correctly, and I did. 3 steps, fumbling the ball, results in an incompletion. What is Deebo to do? Aim and hit lower is the answer, and yes, he could have done that. But it was too fast and he could have been aiming for the ball/arms area initially, but Massaquoi starting going down.
This is a tough thing to legislate, and there are other similar types of hits that don't result in injuries. It's the right step to simply and soley fine only the ones that result in injury... and that's what happened this weekend.

Pump-N-Iron wrote:The difference is that Cribbs is a receiver, not an RB. RBs are used to getting pounded 20-30 times a game. They know to protect themselves when they start going down, since some rabid LB is lining them up for a big KO. Cribbs was trying to break a tackle and get more yards, rather than protect himself. He learned this lesson the hard way. I am willing to bet he runs differently in the future.
The Massaquoi hit was perfectly clean and legal. This was a case of his Rookie QB hanging him out to dry.
Cribbs was a running back on that play. Don't want to be hit hard and have your ass knocked out? Don't be in the wildcat as a running back otherwise, LIGHT HIS ASS UP JAMES!!!

Re: Harrison's hit on Cribbs.
Since the league has been increasingly handcuffing defenders with with every new season, this is the result of football today. The league can only blame themselves by forcing defenders to change the way defensive football is played. Defenders can no longer cover one-on-one with the ticky-tack rules in place that allow receivers and backs to run free all over the place, i.e. west coast offense, etc. Most of the league takes advantage of these pussified ticky-tack rules and run a short passing game 5 to 7 yds downfield in hopes that the receiver will break free. The defense has no choice but to try and deliver big hits just as the ball gets there and zone defense is now the norm rather than the exception. Any zone defense is predicated on sitting in a spot and attacking the ball. Whether these faggy fans from other teams will admit it or not, nearly all LB's and DB's play just like Jaimie, but just are not as good. Back in the 70's-80's they allowed the WR and DB to compete for the ball so there were less violent collisions involving wide receivers. The majority all of the hard hits back then were delivered to the RB's, not WR's running free in linebacker territory.
Also, the spot foul on pass interference is bullshit and should be like they do it in college. This is another frustration for defenders. There is nothing worse than seeing a game won on a desperation throw with a subsequent interference call with the ball placed at the 1 yd line!

Agree with the "spot foul" nonsense. How many "hail Mary's" do you see where interference is called, ball goes to 1-yd line. I think that is intended for those "thriller endings". Make it a 15-yd/1st down; half the distance type thing.
So who protects the defensive guys? When a human bowling ball, i.e., Jones-Drew, Redman, etc., lower themselves to deliver a blow, are THEY suspected of head-hunting if they hit a defender in the head? Seems they are putting defensive playes on their heels a bit here. Some head-to-head is just going to happen; law of unintended consequences - you have basically 21 players (take QB's out of it) looking to stop each other in a confined area in a rather quick period of time. WTF do you expect? Is it intentional? That's the issue. James outta ask what are they going to do about the holds on him that aren't called?
Unfortunately, he is a target for convenience: "dirty" player, deserves to be held, and DESERVES to be watched closely for aggressive play. Sure seems to me he's one they look to hamper. I still say he should just fall down if he feels the holds on him. Tough to do with his motor.

"dirty'" = Most intense, best LB in football = DPOY = future HOFer
