What an embarrassment...

Postby steelslep » Tue Oct 05, 2010 5:48 pm

Headed out to Pittsburgh saturday afternoon from NJ for my first trip to Heinz...long-time Steeler fan that's been looking forward to this for many years...through some connections, had a seat at the 40 on the Steeler side about 20 rows up. I can honestly say that I was embarrassed by the home crowd. People were sitting on their hands the entire game...it took the PLAYERS on the field to get them riled up and have the TT waving :subngtowl: ...are you kidding me? I have no voice since Sunday because I screamed so much...maybe I am used to Giants/Jets games at the Meadowlands where idiot fans scream for the entire 60 minutes...I could not believe the lack of enthusiasm by a team that is 1 year removed from winning the SB!...I actually got into with THREE Ravens fans about 15 rows behind me and felt that if it continue to escalate, I would have had NO BACKUP...people looked at me like I had five heads...when I watch the Steelers against the Giants or Jets in NJ, the Steeler fans are rabid...I don't know, maybe my seat location had something to do with it? Maybe those people pay a lot for their tickets and there are no idiots like me who can afford those prices...? What a disappointment... :supissed:

I agree. I was at the game and it did not feel like a Ravens Stillers game should.

I feel like I could write pages on this subject, but I will keep it to a few lines. The beer and shot crowd has been replaced by those who would rather wait in line for nachos or a primanti's sandwich. I know there are plenty of season ticket holders going but it seems as if most seats have a revolving set of people sitting in them. I am one of those revolving persons but when I travel up I sit in the same seats (loaner from a friend) and do not recognize anyone around me. Seems to be a lot of first-timers coming up from Virginia, NC, etc. There is no attention span at these games. Dee-fense chants last a few seconds (by the way when did Dee-Fense, Dee-Fense, Dee-Fense get repalced with Defense, clap, clap, Defense, clap, clap - interesting crowd study). The seats are emptied with 3 minutes to go in the half while teams like NE come in and score just before the half. The parking lots are sterile before the game compared to what it used to be like.

The stadium construction allows crowd noise to leak right out of both endzones. When was the last time the crowd forced a qb to take a time out or delay of game? NEVER at Heinz Field. It happened all the time in Three-Rivers. You can hear the difference if at the game or at home watching on TV. This is a huge problem as it takes the home field advantage out of the game. What a horrible mistake - all in the name of saving money and provide a vista of the city and a hillside (who cares about that). The only disadvantage for visiting teams is to deal with the crappy playing surface. Heinz Field is not a difficult place to play aside from that. Our post-season record at Heinz Field is probably some indication of the problem.
