Big Ben, Ray Ray, rivalries and Best of the Batch

Postby stuck in seventies » Wed Sep 29, 2010 4:59 pm

Pittsburgh fans are a tough, beautiful group! (I have not lived in 'da 'Burgh area for many years but stay in touch with folks and live near a bunch a fanatical Stiller fans here in the mountains!) I have listened to friends yell call Ray Lewis a 'murderer' in anger when he would jack up one of the Steelers. I have cussed him out for his on field drama queen posing. I have admired him for his ruthlessness and for playing hard all the time.

I just read the ESPN article with him and Ben exchanging text messages. I like the support Lewis was showing to Ben. The way Lewis said Ben must just move on and not let anyone drag him back into the past was right on. The past is past. I am excited to have a QB with Ben's talents coming back. I am still pissed he made such poor decisions. I teach middle grade school and have had a hard time talking to him with some seventh graders who are Steeler fans. Very confusing stuff for kids. and adults. I hope Ben is really aware of how close he is coming to losing it all...and instead give it all on the field and get it together off the field. He needs to not let the past be a burden and stay focused on football!

I am glad that he wishes he were playing this week against the Ravens. I hope he has felt that way every week. The exchange with Ray Lewis just brought it out in the news this week. The raven game will be a slugfest and an hard played, hard hitting game that I am excited to watch. I have watched some brutal games between these teams and their are if you will be banged up and bruised at the end of this game! I have the greatest confidence in Charlie Batch, Mendy and the D to battle for the victory! It will be exciting to watch how it plays out!

I am excited for Batch's chance to shine again! He was not perfect last week, but the team made it work. Batch really does deserve the success. A man whose foundation, best of the batch, works to improve the lives of so many kids in poorer neighborhoods, and who is such a humble, beautiful person, deserves this time to shine. Let the game begin!

Nice post.

I assume it's only venting. :) :)

On the point of our D - I'm still not convinced we can properly defend the pass from any decent spread formation. That's where I see smart teams killing us - getting large chunks when they need to.

3rd and long was our problem last year, and I haven't seen much this year to prove we've fixed it.

Having Troy in there helps a LOT. I'm eager to see what will ratbirds do when the run stops working - spread or... Woud love to see Flaccido throw a few picks. :) :)

Ben will know better.

Still hate Ray-Ray.
