Re: Clark now unrestricted
IC Man - there are 3 rock-solid safeties in this draft that are upgrades over Clark: Berry, Mays, & E.Thomas. One of these guys certainly should be available at 18. If one isn't, there probably a G or T that was bypassed & the Stillers should be all over that guy.
A couple other Safeties who are worthy of 2nd rd pix are Chad Jones, Major Wright, & Nate Allen. Any of these guys can play as well as Cryan Clark. I DON"T think Ryan Mundy is the answer & I hope they don't go that route.
Taylor Mays is a freak - runs a 4.3 & is 230. The fact that he is another SC alum should make for EZ transition as Troy's partner.
This draft is DEEP + NFLteams are cutting guys loose all over the place.
I would not shed a tear if Clark signs elsewhere.

Clark lost my respect when he whined about how the media was so tough on the defense.Go to New York and Philly, where the scrutiny is many times more magnified than Pittsburgh.I don't think he could handle the pressure there.

Re: Clark now unrestricted
Good list StillGrill. Thanks. I will have to check those players for April 22nd. I wonder if any of the free safety - free agents are out there worth taking. I looked at a list of those NFL players earlier but couldn't assess them. Antrel Rolle is probably out of the steeler's pocketbook, I saw a good number of has beens, but some younger players that I was unsure if were being let go simply because they couldn't play.
With Clark possibly being gone, Tyrone Carter a free agent, and Ryan Mundy a question mark (if not already not worth it) the steelers have their work cut out for them at that position.

Ryan Clark and his agent are going to find out the demand for his services on the open market is not as great as they think it will be....and they will come crawling back to the Steelers for less money than what was offered before.

The Steelers are in a really tricky situation as far as who will be their starter in '10 across from Polamalu. Remember 4 years ago when Chris Hope became a free agent? Polamalu lobbied for the Steelers to re-sign him and then complained when they didn't. I think he's going to be pretty unhappy if the Steelers don't sign Clark. Personally I would have made him a higher priority last offseason and offered him a 3 or 4 year extention during training camp. They are definitely in a tricky situation here.

Agree with the first part. I still think he returns.

Don't whine about the media. Man up and do something on the field

The dumbfuck Giants signed Antrel Rolle to $37mill over 5 yrs. You don't think Clark expects the same?
I am telling you, the Stillers are smart to let him test the waters.
