New Punter?

Postby Steelers76 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:37 am

I read The Steelers signed former Pitt University Punter Adam Grassle.(He was cut by Green Bay in this past season's training camp.) Does anyone think he was signed to possibly replace Sepulveda in the future, considering that Sepulveda didn't have a really outstanding season punting,(avg. 42.7 per punt), not to mention that he's probably going to be making a lot more than Grassle will next season? Or do you just think Grassle is just token competition for Sepulveda for this season's training camp? Discuss.

If we keep Reed, we need a punter who can also kick-off.

If he can punt as good as Sep, we may be best advised to go with him!

3rd round pick on a punter jeeez!

I think the new punter is to have another leg in offseason practices and camp. Basically a human jugs machine. Probably also to keep Sepulveda on his game with obligatory competition.

Punting was fine last year. A lot of the time Sepulveda was punting it was around the our own 40, cutting down the avg distance per punt. I don't want to go through another Bitch Berger debacle.

Reed just can't kick. Rewatch the Colts/Saints game. Nearly every kickoff went into the endzone.

Which is why we need a KO specialist.

If Grassle,(or anybody else they may bring into camp to punt), can also handle kickoff duties that include kicking it into/near The E.Z. on a consistant basis,(and can also punt it 40+ yards per attempt), I'd cut Danny S. and sign them, a.s.a.p. I'd be shocked if Tomlin signs somebody just to kickoff.

If Danny could turn out like Pat McAfee did with kickoffs and punting it would be a blessing.. Or just look at Plum Senior High for all future Punters.

I don't know...Jeff is almost money on field goals, but his KO sucks...there's no way we can keep three kickers on the roster.
We dump Sepulveda? Really?

With his recent run-ins with the law, I am not expecting to see Jeff Reed back next year. I'll bet he is treating his agent like a Restroom Towel Dispenser for telling him to turn down the deal the Stillers' offered him last year in training camp. A nice video montage of MR. Shank-a-potamus will qwell any negotiations for more money, if they are dead set on re-signing him

"Tell you what we'll do for ya, Jeffrey, Ol' Bud. See these here kicks in Chicago? Ya know, the ones that cost us a game (can you smell playoff money)? Oh yeah, lookeyhere too,... See these 2 runbacks on your "shorty" kickoffs? See where you looked like a girl scout in an old folks home, ... all "nicey-nice 'n all"...with them returners? Cost us a few more games. Playoff money smellin' real strong about now, eh?"

"Here's what we'll do fer ya. We NEED you to treat them returners who are returnin' YOUR KICKOFFS jus' like they was a hand warmer in a men's room. Git the picture I'm paintin' for ya? We'll pay you $25K for every tackle you make on your silly kickoffs. We'll pay you $10K for EVERY KICK that ain't returned. Geez, learn to kick another 10-15 more yards and that's maybe $50k per game or more an' you won't ever get dirty. You feelin' me yet?"

I say incentivize this moron to the max with a base salary or find a kicker who can reach the EZ.

I like Seppy. I think (hope?) this new coach gets him to use the coffin corner on every punt that he can reach it with. Sidelines are his best friend. Use them.

I could not agree more!!! OMG, Paul Maguire screams about this constantly when he does games. You are a punter. You kick 100 punts a day in practice. Please explain why you can't kick it OOB at the 5 yrd line EVERY FRIGGIN' TIME!!!!

I think Piotr Czeck is still available, let's bring him back for another look. We know he can kick it to the EZ and with the new ST coach, we can make him a good FG kicker

They should not get rid of Reed. Dude only missed 4 FGs' last year,(2 of them were from beyond 50 yards.), and was perfect on PATs. They either need to get a kick-off specialist, or teach Reed a new technique that will help him on k.o.s'.
