i never thought that by removing one piece to our puzzle would send it crashing to the ground

I think you over look the loss of Aaron Smith.
(not to mention Mcfadden)

Agreed. I think the Stillers are solid enough to withstand the loss of 1 starter on either side of the ball – Willie Parker last year for example. The loss of 3 major starters (Smith, McFadden and Polamalu) has proven to be catastrophic. And don’t forget the drop off in play of Woodley, Farrior, Gay, Taylor and even Townshend. All essential pieces of the puzzle, if you will. And all of them are gone, injured or chronically underperforming. What a mess.
