Idea for a great sports cartoon!

Postby bigjoespompano » Mon Dec 07, 2009 5:43 am

Anyone here old enough to remember the great sports cartoonist that used to do the cartoons for the old Pittsburgh Press? Some of his sports cartoons were legendary. Remember his series of pictures that appeared on the top of the front page on the next day edition when the Pirates came from behind and beat Baltimore in '71? Or his 'Steeler' cartoons in the sports section during the 'losing' years (pre-1970). Classics. Well, with him in mind, I have an idea and hope some one here runs with it.

First, in the foreground, we see cars and trucks rushing by and along the side of the road we see a road sign that says "Superbowl city, 2009 miles". The cars and trucks wizzing by are shown with small 'automotive' symbols on their side (Like the chevy bowties and the Ford Ovals etc.) but instead, they sport Tigers heads, Saints Fleur De Le and maybe a small kicking horse...) On the other side of that same highway, we see a 'one man' soft ice cream stand (the kind shaped like a swirl cone on top) with a guy leaning on the open service window.

Of course, it's a caracture of Dick Lebeau in an ice cream vendors uniform with one of those paper 'cunt' caps on and the little circle patch with the word 'Dickie".

Out side of the building we see all the 'menu' signs attached but instead of food items we see all the stupid and 'softee' defensive schemes he is famous for!

And the finishing touch would be a customer that looks remarkably like a particular Steeler coach standing at the open window placing an order!

Can anyone do this idea justice?
