Quality move by LeBeau... will probably go unnoticed.
Earlier this week when Coach Tomlin announced that Smith was out for the season, he publicly stated that Ziggy was no where close to being able to fill in for Smith. While true, Coach T's blunt approach can be slightly chilling to a rookie who is cracking the lineup for the first time.
Dick Lebeau yesterday stated that we had the players who could step up and he expected that they would. He acknowledged Smith's role but let his boys know he was 100% behind them and expected good things.
From a motivational standpoint, I feel this was the right move on LeBeau's part. I don't disagree with Coach Tomlin's honesty, but it is LeBeau who needs to rally those guys together and I think his public endorsement was the right move. Even though it won't be tangible on the field.

Truth be told, it was a very generic, vanilla, hum drum "endorsement" of Hood. In fact, nowhere did Dick specifically cite Hood by name & support Hood by name. If anything, Dick's dry comments leave me uninspired. Appears he's in favor of rolling Kirschke out there for 45 snaps per game and then splitting platoon time between Eason and Hood.

I sometimes wonder how Hoke would do on running downs on that end. He may be too short to clog passing lanes on 1st&@2nd down passing so maybe too much of a gamble. I wouldn't think the same thing for hampton but Hoke seems like he could anchor an edge pretty good. He would certainly bring a lot of nastiness to slow down what could be a run on plays we should be expecting to see over that side of the line in the coming weeks.

It's Cleveland this weekend, not Arizona or Indy. I say keep Troy down for another week to get 100% for Minn. and rest of year and get Ziggy his playing time NOW. We will need him as we will need Sweed down the stretch. Give these guys PT and opportunities to build confidence. At this point, if we can win 25-20, 21-17, I'll take it. A win is a win and to heck with the stats or how we get it. Heck every other game was this way.
The back-ups get game checks, might as well use them now to earn them. I am even for getting Keenan Lewis out there. I would love to see him get PT (when dressed). Nice to have a 38-13 lead and throw them out there but that doesn't look too promising no matter who is across the field.
