jeff reed...

Postby ginojohn » Tue Sep 29, 2009 10:48 pm

everyone is talking about how Jeff Reed is missing field goals and costing them the game.
how about his lousey kickoffs? if he kicks it to the 10 yard line thats a good one for him.
the opponents get to start on the 30 yard line or better most of the time.
with his contract up this year, they should have signed that czech kid this year. was wondering if he still was available?

Yeah after watching the Cowboys kicker kick it into the endzone after every kickoff I think its safe to say we won't be resigning Reed

yeah not making a very good case as to why he should be paid the big bucks

plus beating up the sheetz bathroom kinda makes him look real bad

Like the rest of the team Jeff is playing with no confidence and lack of focus. It all points to the top, Mike Tomilin is doing his best Billy Cowhard impression of how to defend a championship.

Reed screwed the Steelers and himself by turning down the contract offer before the season started. Kicking in the NFL has enough pressure, but now Reed knows that every time he goes out there, each kick is not just for 3 points but hundreds of thousands of dollars. Every kick he makes ads to the pot and every kick he misses takes away from the pot. Kickers by nature are head-cases, and this added pressure is not wearing well.

Before the opening kick-off he was already gone. Ultimately if he had a great year he would price himself out of Pittsburgh and a bad year plays himself out of Pittsburgh. With an average year, someone will pay him more than Pittsburgh will offer. Once the season began without a contract he punched his ticket out of Pittsburgh, and now with the pressure bearing down it appears more likely he will cost the Steelers the division and play himself out of town.

Great analysis, Hawkeye.

Remember Mike Vanderjagt? "NFL's most accurate kicker". Goes into the final year of his $2.8M contract with the Dolts talking about how they won't pick him up at the end of his contract because he'll be worth too much against the cap.

Missed kick in playoffs puts his team out for the season, Colts sign Vinatieri, fast forward a couple of years and he's outta football.

Kudos to both you, Hawkeye and Pommah on the analysis and the Vanderslice comparision. I forgot what mental head case kicker are. How could I forget the shit pounding he gave the towel dispenser this summer :o

SteelHawkeye, what happened last Saturday night in Happy Valley has me wanting to disagree with you.

but, I can't. Still hate Iowa though. :supissed: :supissed:

I think these agents don't know what they are doing sometimes. Look at the Crabtree situation and that Alabama kid. Even Leftwich could have stayed in Stiller Country and taken Batch's job as a younger version of the perfect backup QB for ten more years, now he's out in three games in TB.

As far as kickoffs go, they should have Reed kick it hard down the middle of the field on the ground. I.E.-Like most teams do at the end of the half/end of the game. Not only will his kickoffs be much deeper, it wll give the kick coverage team more time to get to The K.R. Either that, or see if Punter Dan S. can kickoff.

The way Reed is knuckleballing his FG attempts, it makes me believe he's partying too much w/ Pen Max Talbot ( recup-ing from shoulder surgery).
