Nice article...Whenever I think of Cowher and his failures, I always go back to that AFC Champ game in '97 against the Broncos where the Chin's clock management at the end of the 2nd QTR was piss-poor and he actually allowed Donnel "The Whiff" Woolford onto the field...If not for these glaring fuck-ups, we would possibly already have 7+ rings.
I'm glad I'm not the only one thats noticed how complacent Lebeau has been with his play calling. The players seemed handcuffed out there, even Harrison. Its like the Stillers secretly brought back Tim Lewis and his "thumb up the ass" Defensive schemes.
Personally, if Woodley goes one more game without a sack, I think somebody should Krazy Glue his fridge shut at home, ban him from all local Krispy Kremes and start throwing empty weight watchers boxes from the stands each time he half asses it on the field...Shocking to see a player go from great to lazy in 7 months.
I'll second the Fox for Taunto anyday...He's obviously past his prime and needs to live out his days on an NFL twilight squad like the Raiders and not ruin the Steelers chances this year.
I wonder if Sweed can find an old can of "stickum" on Ebay.

Wow, there is some hope! Ok, Suks maybe they can turn it around. Ur usually spot on. I'm concerned about no pass rush pressure/nice safe zone defense and Rivers & big receivers free ticket to pass, were talkin all day long, but really on that last drive . What u say about Farrior maybe true, but knowing this team the only way hes not playin is injury. Typical, hes a vet/leader sterotype as far as coachs view concerned. He could stand there with thumb up his ass and they still leave him in.

Great article! entertaining AND educational, and a well reasoned case for optimism.
Pretty much every DC in the league, except for the very best, goes softee at the end of half and game...you'd think Dick would be better than that.

P-Sucks, nice article. A few more things have been burning my britches:
1) Why Carey Davis? Redman seemed to have a great pre-season. The practice squad is his reward? Like you said, why not play the young studs that are actually performing and not skating on their reputations? And what reputation does Davis have besides being unable to get to the first down marker.
2) I fully agree with letting McDonald play. Sweed needs to see a wide receiver coach and get his shit together. I’m wondering about Nance as well – same kind of big receiver as Sweed. I wonder if he’ll get a shot, or is he hurt, I can’t remember. The big upside to him is a very strong connection to Big B.
3) Hearing Cowher talk, it is painfully apparent what a tool he is. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt for a long, long time but I think he really did cost the team at least one SB ring. And that whole Caroline Hurricanes thing - what a D-Bag.
4) Tomlin, on the other hand, is not a tool and I’m optimistic that he will right the ship. He needs to get his coordinators reined and playing aggressively for 60 minutes. Enough of the prevent defense and running FWP up the middle on 1st and 2nd down to protect a lead in the 2nd half. Like you said though, September is the time to work these things out. Let's hope it happens.
5) Another reason I’m optimistic is none other than Mike Wallace. Yet another case for giving the new guy a shot. The level that college ball is played today enables good ball players to have very early success in the NFL. The Steeler coaching staff needs to realize this. Hopefully Wallace continues to play at this level and develop even more. Huge potential and a great pick for the 3rd round.
6) I fully agree with the linebacker situation. Give Key Fox and A. Harrison some reps. At the very least, pull Farrior for a few downs every series. What’s the worst that could happen? They blow more plays than Taunto? Highly unlikely.
I’m not ready to give up the ship just yet but these issues need to be worked out soon or we can kiss 2009 goodbye.

Dullard Dick, Lips Lebeau, all should apply. To call the hounds off, and play soft vanilla when the game's on the line is unacceptable. Tomlin has a good defensive background. He's just as much to blame for not stepping in, and telling Dick, who fell asleep, to get aggressive. Lame-ass Peed should be riding the bench all the way to a nice fat pink slip come seasons' end. Taunto Failure should give way to Key Fox, who's faster, and probably can't do any worse.
Our lack of effort is unacceptable, especially in these early games. I hope we get this straightened out, along with a good diet plan for Clark Gildeddong Woodley.

Nice article - very spot -on but I have two suggestions: 1) FUck Bill Cowher; he is gone & luckily we got a a SB out of it. There is no point in even mentioning that jutt-jawed sphincter.
2) How about putting a little more heat on Jeffie-Jeff? Despite all the blown calls & terrible defensive strategy in the two losses thus far, Jeff Reed has had two games (well at least one) on his foot and he has promptly stuck it up his ass.......

I wish I could hear Lebeau sit and laugh at that article while he is being inducted into the hall of fame. I guess everyone forgets that Lebeau came off the field in 1972. Blame the guys on the field. How many sacks does Harrison have? How about Woodley?
He is using the same packages that made us the #1 defense last season. Where where the complaints then?
