Another post Super Bowl letdown
It looks like Dick LeBeau went to the same post Super Bowl coaching school as Bill Cowher. I know Troy is out, but he's missed games before and they still played like the Big Nasty Defense we have grown accustomed to.
I believe this is Dick's last year, and he's mailing it in. He seems to get a lot of credit when the D looks good, so by that standard he deserves hearty blame when they suck. Maybe he's old and tired, or maybe he's ticked that Tomlin along with the front office are sewing the seeds to change to a 4-3 defense starting in 2010. Below are some signs.
*Big Snack is out aftr this year and we have no replacement.
*Kiesel is re-signed even though we spent a 1st round draft pick on what appeared to be his replacement at DE.
*Ziggy and Smith are well suited to play 4-3 DT's.
*Woodley has bulked up and out of shape. Maybe, he's been informed of his iminant move to DE and thought he could get a head start without hurting his performance. If that is correct, he is obviosly wrong!
*Timmons is woefully weak as an inside linebacker and seems a lot more comfortable outside.
*Farrior was extended and has the speed of a slow middle-backer.
It is a long season and with Troy's return all could be right with the world again, but giving up double digit points and losing leads in the 4th quarter to the Bears and Begals makes me weary for the rest of the year.
