Tomlin on the run...
In his press conference yesterday, Coach Tomlin revealed that he is determined to fix the run game, but only because it gives you a better chance of winning during the season. He seems to suggest that if the run game is not working they will abandon it and go to what works. Again, no one here has complained more about our run game (lack thereof). Howver, I totally agree with Coach that if our best play is BR to Ward or Miller or Holmes or Wallace or Sweed, then let BR throw the ball.
I still contend that the lack of a run game necessitates near-perfect execution in the passing game in order to win. And over the course of a season that is almost impossible to maintain.
A short-sided focus on leaning on BR to bail us out will cost us later in the season. WE MUST GAIN POSITIVE YARDS IN THE GROUND GAME ON A CONSISTENT BASIS IN ORDER TO WIN.

Re: Tomlin on the run...
I agree with you.
Problems are;
The O-line is awful at run blocking..technically and physically awful.
Our offensive strength is Ben and the WR's.
Our offensive line is adequate...sometimes..in pass pro.
Our most successful offensive formation is three WR's, Miller, and Moore.
We have no blocking FB at the moment.
We have not had a power running game for the past two seasons.
Spaeth is useless.
In Ben, we trust.

We still need a consistant short yardage punch for 3rd and 1 or the goalline. After that, I don't care if we throw it 65 times a game.

Agreed, why not go with the man who is actually delivering, right now.
The Stillers also need an OC that can run an offense more sophisticated than my Bethel Bakery Pee Wee team. I heard mention of a "Get Rid of Arians Campaign". Where do I sign up?

I know Tomlin says Redman must contribute somewhere other than just the run .... but if we can't pick up 3 and 1, isn't that one single ability worth more that an extra body elsewhere?

Re: Tomlin on the run...
Jim Brown couldn't pick up 1 yard behind our line at times...
OJ might be able to "slash" his way for a few yards, but it is our Offensive line that is simply not holding blocks and moving people to allow for good decisions by our backs.
I think the blame gets spread around (backs, line, coaches etc), but mostly its the players who play. So far, our players have not shown the consistent ability to gain 3 yards on the ground without running gimmicks. And that goes back to last year.
