Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers DL Casey Hampton, who is entering the final year of his contract, senses 2009 may be his last season with the team. "Yeah, it's coming down to that," Hampton said. "If they don't do contracts during the season, then that'll make me a free agent. If I get to free agency, man, I mean everybody knows what it is. So I don't need to say something about that. If they let me get to free agency, everybody knows what it's going to be, so there's no need to even talk about it."

good point. The other point is that ya don't repeat the same mistake we made with Fat Joel Steed.....giving a fat, pudgy player his 3rd contract when he is clearly in, or soon going to, decline.

When nose tackles decline, they decline FAST. There's nothing wrong for the Stillers to make Case work for his due, this yr. If the Snack wants a contract, he'll do more than lean on the opposing Center. If not, I'm sure the typically astute braintrust will find a rea$onable replacement, & keep using Hokey as a backup. Go to work, larda$$.

Casey faces doubles most of the time he's in the game which is why he is so valuable.

Hoke stepped in for him a bit and did a pretty decent job, so I don't think Hampton is the key to the car on defense. Our linebackers may disagree with me though.

I would be happy if he stays cause I like him, but not real disappointed if he moves on. I will wish him well.

Money would have to be right, but I'd like to see Hampton signed for another 3 years.

Got to remember Hoke is not a young man.
Also 2010 is looking like an uncapped year.

I agree with the Steelers to not resign Hampton at this point in his career. He's going to be looking for at least a 4 year extension (through 2013 season) with a lot of guaranteed money and he has a poor work ethic. They've gotten great use from him thus far and can always franchise him for a year or 2 but no way would I sign him to a 4 year extension with his offseason workout routine (lack of one). You watch him have a great year now that he has such a high necessity to do so. Great call front office!

I don't really care about a person's work ethic as much as I care about results. If we're going to resign him, I'd rather use the franchise tag for next year, only to continue the development(if such a thing exists) of future replacements.
