Steelers, Hood reach terms

Saturday, July 25, 2009

By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Peter Diana / Post-Gazette

The Steelers today came to terms in principle on a five-year contract with first-round draft choice Ziggy Hood.

Monetary terms were unavailable. Hood, a defensive end from Missouri, will sign the contract later this week.

Hood is only the fourth first-round NFL draft pick to come to terms, and when he signs his agreement, the Steelers will have all of their nine draft choices under contract. All 80 players on their roster will be under contract as well.

The front office has done a nice job getting the rookies signed.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the Steelers front office have had their first-round draft pick under contract in time for training camp.

Now maybe they can focus on extending some of our vets and finding some help/depth at certain positions of concern.

Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers DL Evander Hood's deal is for four years, with a club option for a fifth year, according to league sources. The deal, including all bonuses and escalators, is worth a maximum of $11.3 million, with $6.1 million guaranteed. The total base value of the contract is just under $9 million.
