Trade FWP? Is it worth it?

Postby bigjoespompano » Tue May 05, 2009 12:42 pm

I would hate to see the guy go as he has been so great with us (when he wasn't injured) but I wonder what he would bring us as he is in his 'prime'? I'm not advocating we gt rid of him but with that stinking ass-wipe of a coordinator calling the shots, all I see for him is more injury time off. It just seems such a waste to lay out that kind of $$$ when the Ol' Shit-head is just gonna run him up the middle again and get him killed. What's your take? Keep him and let him get chewed to pieces or let him finish a great career elsewhere and maybe build for he future with what we might get for him?

That's a tough call. Our 0-line is absolutely putrid, there won't be any big gaping holes for FWP to sprint through. But can we really trust Mendenhall, Moore and "Tank" (<======hoping he makes the team) to carry out the running back duties? I'd love to see what we could get for FWP but on the other hand he's a seasoned vet with a great resume. Interesting question, tough call.............

In recent years, Have the Steelers shown any ability to trade one of their own players for any thing close to their value?

I think you keep him for at least 1 more season. He's not a great back, but if you give him a hole it's syronara.

Who wants a back who's been injured the past 2 yrs, is coming up on 30, & relies almost solely on speed to succeed? FWP has been a great player but he has one yr left in those wheels. Ain't no way he's gonna go somewhere else & be a feature back. If he's smart, he'll sign a reasonable contract & accept some kind of platoon system w/ Mendenhall starting in 2010.

it's not parker's fault he has been our best 3rd/goalline back.

when arians uses him correctly, he's the bees knees. don't trade him.

FWP has been great for us, i think everyone will remember the run in SBXL. But with that beeing said Parker is a speed back, thats his bread and butter. As we all know you can't have 4.27 speed forever. I just think he is on the downside of his career right now and that IF Mendenhall shows something this year we have to think about pulling the trigger. Now will it happen? Probably not, my guess is he will walk as a FA unless deciding to stay on for less cash. But remember Mendenhall has much to prove, durability and holding on to the ball are big questions heading into this season. guess i'll mention that i'm a big Frank the tank supporter so i was very excited when we got him, lets just hope he can make the cut and take some playing time away from Davis.....The more the better imo
