Talking heads grade Steelers draft

Postby thesteelhammer » Mon Apr 27, 2009 10:12 pm

USAtoday gives Steelers "B-"

• Pittsburgh Steelers: Steelers let the draft unfold and took the best player on their board, DT Evander "Ziggy" Hood. A need? Not really. Hood can get upfield and pressure from the inside and who has enough big people? Filled a need at CB with Keenan Lewis though some teams liked him more at S. Third-round OL Kraig Urbik will be a bit of a project. Tall but not overly bulky, he lacks the body type at OG and the skills for OT.

PFW gives Steelers a "Good" grade
http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Draft+Day/2009/grades042709.htm
Pittsburgh Steelers — Evander Hood was not regarded as an ideal 3-4 defensive end, and questions remain about how he will fit into the defense, but Dick LeBeau is as good as any at maximizing personnel and should find a way to incorporate him into his pressure system. OG-OT Kraig Urbik gives the line much-needed depth, and WR Mike Wallace much-needed vertical speed after Nate Washington departed. All three filled needs and should compete readily. Frank Summers is an ideal power back for the offense. CB Joe Burnett could contribute in the return game, and C A.Q. Shipley could turn out to be a surprise starter from the seventh round. Overall, it was a need-based draft for Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin that should keep the Steelers very competitive and could easily wind up featuring three starters.
Grade: Good

Ouch, TSN gives our New Men of Steel an "F"

Pittsburgh Steelers: F
It's hard to have an impressive draft after you win the Super Bowl and pick 32nd. Defensive tackle Evander "Ziggy" Hood could be a nice pickup on a line that needed to get younger. Wideout Mike Wallace is an intriguing deep threat.

I'm sure TSN gave New England an "F" all the times they drafted last after winning it all. Stupid media...
