The only ones I would have liked to move up for was Unger or Butler, but it would have taken quite a bit to get to 2.9 or 2.17. I know there were a couple of the tackles on the radar in the 2nd, but evidentially the FO wasn't that high on them.

So our O-line has little depth and we gambled with a couple picks. Big Deal. We won a superbowl with that line with pure shit as depth, how are late draft picks or UFA's any a step below what we won a championship with? This site and some of it's members are so negative it's a bummer to read at times. I mean for f's sake we won the superbowl a couple months ago and the poll on the homepage still has a gripe about which coach blew it in the second half. I mean get over it already. Some of you are so quick to judge these guys and they haven't even put on the black and gold yet.

I thought this was a typical steeler draft, one that can't and shouldn't be evaluated till a few years from now. If you fans dislike this style of draft, go become a fan of the jets or some other flash in the pan team always scratching for the playoffs but never really a contending.

We build talent, I think colbert was spot on when he said he would get 3 future starters out of this group. I'm excited about our special teams with the addition of some of these picks. I like the competition these hardworking picks are going to bring to camp as well as the practice squad. I like a lot of things going into this season, just as I did last year, even with the supposedly hardest schedule. These hardworking picks know there will be roster spots available soon with all the vets going into their final seasons under contract. You better believe colbert knows this and drafted accordingly. And keep in mind the draft picks last year that got banged up and will be looking to impress this year. Add in the contract ext. to hines and this has been a damn fine weekend to be a steeler fan. GO STEELERS!

Welcome tot he board.
Nice first post.
One thing to remember - that O-line we wont he superbowl with WAS THE DEPTH at the begining of last season. With Smith and Simmons leaving (the guys who were the starters this time last year) we needed to add ome bodies on the O-line, especially at Tackle.

ahh, just saw the poll has been updated, although it still proves my point. Why the negativity? Polamalu rotted the bench too and look how he turned out. Yeah, that lebeau sure doesn't know shit about coaching does he? #1 defense and a couple super bowls the past few years... if "rotting rookies" produces those kinds of results, I say sit em all. The guy knows what he is doing, he's been in the league a lot longer than ANY of you, yet some of you (maybe the guy putting up the poll questions) think they somehow know whats better for the team than the guy coaching them. You want a poll question related to the draft? Why not have it positive like "How many players from this draft class will make the team?"

hammer- thanks for the welcome.. enjoy reading your posts. i always know if something is going on you will have a link and quote on here asap and for that thank you. I agree with you the line needs some fresh bodies, and I think we did a pretty good job filling in the gaps and potentially finding a couple of guys that could start for us down the road. I just find it baffling that the biggest flaw on this team is an O-line that won a superbowl giving up as many sacks as they did. The thing they never talk about is how a lot of those sacks are from ben making a play or lack thereof. Put any other decent QB back there who doesn't try to extend the play like ben and a lot of those sacks go away. I'd take a guess that we wouldn't of won this past year without ben being ben.

Analyzing and grading the draft is not being "negative". It is diffrenet than being negative or positive on the Steelers. I do believe in the Steeler system and think that the draft will yield at least two starters in two years. The Burnett and Summers picks were goofy when we might have picked a few more linemen to compete. I am also quite happy with the AQ Shipley pick. Sodont be a homer ay?

analyzing and grading this draft isn't negative, but acting like ungrateful assaholic fans is. my point wasn't so much about grading the draft, but how this site is full of i-told-ya-sos who are so quick to slam colbert or the coaches for "rotting" their draft picks or not being aggressive enough to reach for instant impact players. thats not the steelers style, and their success proves it's a viable system that a lot of teams are emulating now. yet we still have these know-it-all fans that rant and rave everyweek when their favorite draft pick is still on the sideline watching and waiting his turn. i think the steelers will bring in a couple more UFA's between now and camp to compete, as they still have a couple project OL on the roster. I think they realized they needed to find 2 capable returners and special teams players that could step in to spot roles, which might explain the smokin' joe and wallace pick. i thought frank the tank was a nice pick even though we MIGHT have been able to pick him up after the draft. thats about as aggressive as you'll ever see colbert, reaching for a UFA in the later rounds. well maybe reaching for a punter trumps that :wow:

Disappointed they didn't get one of the good CB's (Davis, A.Smith) but looks like Ziggy Stardust is a lunch-pail type w/ a big motor. I can't believe Meauluga(?) went so late - a friggin' animal. At least he didn't go to the Crows. If they hadn't extended freakin' Farrior's contract, they could've afforded Meauluga. Shipley could be at least a backup C in a few yrs - good pick. Frank the Tank will make the goalline drills @ Latrobe interesting, if nothing else. Looks like Tone won't have to return kix - one of these new guys should stick.
