PFW says Steelers will bring in another QB
Not sure that's breaking news, but I like hearing it could be one that would push Dixon down the depth chart.

A source close to the club says the Steelers will not go into the ’09 season with just Ben Roethlisberger and Dennis Dixon at quarterback. A third passer for the depth chart — and one whose arrival would push Dixon back into the No. 3 role — will be added at some point

Re: PFW says Steelers will bring in another QB
Batch seemed to still be a quality veteran backup for Ben before he got hurt. I am not sure why all of a sudden Batch would be such a bad option. Having a backup like Lefty last year was a luxury.
Other than Batch there are two veteran FAs that could be interesting:
1) Trent Green. Statue in the pocket who can throw the football (Lefty wasn't exactly moblie) and can be had real cheap. Not sure if he has any juice left and of course there's the concussion issue.
2) Jeff Garcia. He's looked great in relief duty recently in Philly and Tampa. May still want to start somewhere, or maybe he wants a ring
Marques Tuiasosopo (or however the fuck you spell that) is also out there. I always thought he could be decent, just stuck in Oakland.
I'd like to see Batch back unless there is some reason to believe he isn't as good as he was pre-injury. Dixon should be ready for 2nd string duties by 2010 season or if not probably destined for 3rd string

The surprise will be if his name is not Charlie Batch.

Ed Bouchette seems to Agree
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are likely to re-sign QB Charlie Batch after QB Byron Leftwich signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Re: PFW says Steelers will bring in another QB
obvious now why the fo said they'd like to sign both lefty and batch. they knew the chances of lefty going elsewhere were decent (i'm still surprised he didn't get more interest this off-season) and so now they can welcome batch back at the vet minimum without losing face. ben/batch/dixon--we could do worse. then again, wouldn't surprise me to see us spend a 5th on a qb...

I'd be shocked. Dixon looks to have the talent to develop into a potential starter in the next couple years. Obviously he's not taking Ben's spot but that would be a good problem to have.
Drafting a QB would be the end for Dixon, otherwise just a wasted draft pick. I guess if someone that the FO thinks has 2nd or early 3rd round talent slips to the 5th it's possible. I loved Dixon at Oregon and think if he didn't get hurt he could have been a late first or second rounder.

Batch will sign & Dixon will be groomed as backup in '10 or '11. Trent Green has been dinged more than a '74 Vega & Garcia still thinks he can start (tho seeing his ex-Playmate wife around tahn would be welcomed). Batch can collect a cool-Mill$ by carrying a clipboard, playing 2-3 gms, & staying in his hometown - who wouldn't??

Dixon seems to have so much upside to him. It was just a preseason game but he didn't look half bad against Buffalo last year in Toronto. If I remember correctly he busted off a huge run after he was flushed out of the pocket. I'd love to see him involved in our offense. He's got ridiculous game speed and is elusive as hell. WAKE UP ARIANS!!!! WILDCAT!!!!!!
Re: PFW says Steelers will bring in another QB
dixon = slash 3 (korky, are, dixon). i'd like to see him dress and heaven forbid have arians develop some trick plays to leverage his talent.
