How many OT's go in round 1?
Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman said he believes as many as six offensive tackles could be selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. "It's a premier position. You have to almost draft guys because there's very rarely going to be an offensive tackle in his prime that's going to get out there on the open market. There are some good tackles in this draft class. I think there could potentially be five, six guys go in the first round again. You can tell those guys are a premium and if they're any good, they're going to come flying off the board," Spielman said

Re: How many OT's go in round 1?
Last season there were 8 offensive tackles taken in the first round alone. In this years draft there are 7 that are expected to be taken in round one. This may become a yearly NFL event, considering the havok caused by Linebackers such as James Harrison, Demarcus Ware, and Joey Porter.
The bounty on the heads of star QB's like Roethlisberger, Manning, and Brady has just reached an all time high. And so has the price of protecting them.
With offensive tackles now at such a premium, it seems hard to believe that only one was taken in the entire first round just three drafts ago. Now we're looking at the possibility that 15 of the 63 first-round picks in 2008 and 2009 will have been used on offensive tackles.
