Cards sign Kreider--wtf?

Postby hschultz » Thu Apr 02, 2009 4:50 pm

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals have signed free-agent fullback Dan Kreider to a one-year deal.

Kreider played in 11 games for the St. Louis Rams last season before being released on Nov. 26.

He spent the previous eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, appearing in 113 games, including 10 postseason games and starting in the 2006 Super Bowl.

Kreider entered the NFL in 2000 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of New Hampshire.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Danny boy. I just don't get what it is about teams (Stilers/Detroit; Cards/Stillers) signing former cast-offs from their previous franchises....

I always liked Kreider. The dude was a hammer - will never forget him pounding Ray Lewis :sucope:

The Cards just love Stiller leftovers, I guess.

I sure wish we still had him, although Sean McHugh has definitely shown he is more than capable of lead blocking, if BA would just use him!

So to keep count, the Cards have pilfered the Stillers for:

Wiz
Grimm
Sean Morey
Okobi (is he still with them?)
Kreider
Haggans

...who did I leave out?

dont for get McFadden .

I think they also had St. Pierre on the roster this year as well.

I am sure Kreider signed for the vet minimum and little to no bonus. Thus he can be cut without much of a cap hit.

Kreider's got more miles on him than a '72 El Camino. Him, Tim Lester, etc always break down before 30. I think that guy Mack Strong was the only FB who was productive post-30.

Mike Sellers is 33 and the best FB in the league.

No-Gravity -- Sellers spent about 5 yrs in the CFL. I do believe the hitting is just a LITTLE different there than the NFL. Like I said, it's all in the mileage.
