How many players in a "Wedge"?

Postby thesteelhammer » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:29 pm

Barry Wilner, of The Associated Press, reports the NFL owners have passed a rule stating blocking wedges on kickoffs will not be allowed to have more than two players forming the wedge. Also, a rule stating the kicking team is not allowed to have more than five players bunched together pursuing an onside kick was passed.

IS TWO PLAYERS REALLY A WEDGE?

Hell, I dunno. I thought the thread title said "wedgie." *Gives Steelhammer a wedgie and runs* :D

Okay, seriously ~

The “wedge” has been part of kickoff returns seemingly forever. The wedge is simply three players lined up in a blocking triangle that a returner follows as it plows up the field against kickoff coverage.

God Lord.

I really am beginning to question my desire to continue to watch this sport after 35 years.
