Good news on Mendenhall
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall (shoulder) thought he would need surgery after breaking his shoulder, but did not need surgery. He should be at full strength at the start of the offseason program.

that IS good news. i figured he already had the surgery and was recuperating.
Edit: hopefully he has learned a valuable lesson about keeping ones mouth shut.

Hopefully Shard learned a lesson about what it is to run downhill and deliver a hit rather than running vertical straight into a punisher like Gay Ray. McLovin not looking past the Super Bowl or anything but next season Shard and especially Sweed need to justify their lofty selections in this past draft. McLovin not a big Colbert fan but he supported Colberts decision to stay put and take HIS best players available and not get caught up chasing linemen all over the board. McLovin has an especially bad feeling about Sweed's ability to make it in the NFL. His blantant lack of concentration as shown countless times on CBS and ESPN of him not even looking near the football was pathetic at best. He has no self confidence and maybe the worst concentration and hands McLovin has seen since Dwight hands of Stone who was merely a solid special teamer not a 2nd round pick selected soley to give Ben his BIG receiver. Nice pick Colbert you JERKOFF!

McLovin usually thrives on enthusiasm but the mistakes young players like Sweed, like Colon, like Stapleton is trying McLovin's patience. When Burress struggled with bonehead mistakes like his famous post catch spike at least we could see the talent was there. McLovin doesn't see Sweed's talent. He sees fear and uncertainty. Bottom line is that a lot of these young guys are not focused and McLovin' is starting to think they play simply because their is no other option. It's up to Colbert to select players with more talent and Tomlin and his staff to coach that talent. Are you listening Larry Porn?!

Don't get too down on Sweed, Mclovin'. Remember Holmes in his rookie year? How many fumbled punt returns did he gift-wrap for opponents? Now he's making huge contributions every week. I think Hines/Holmes will mentor Sweed and he will be a bigger part of the game plan next year. However, if he can't show some consistency and potential next year, it may be time to cut losses.
As far as Mendenhall, I think he has HUGE potential in this offense. My secret burning desire is for Arians to use a two-back backfield of FWP and Rashard, or even a three-back look with MeMo occasionally. Imagine the possibilities! But then again, it is Arians....

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall (shoulder) said his current goal is strengthening the muscles around his surgically repaired shoulder. He expects to be fully healthy by the team's offseason workouts.

McLovin may be forced to eat his words. Sweed will see significant playing time on Sunday and will contribute positively.

McL does not need me to speak for him but i would venture he would happily eat his words to see Sweed perform like a pro!

Maybe McLovin missed Sweed's ferocious block on Corey Ivy, his INT breakup that preserved a Jeff Reed FG try, and his tough catch in traffic that converted a 3rd-long...all following his gaffe.
He got reamed out something awful by both fans, teammates, and coaches for that miss- rightfully so. The encouraging thing is he responded in the right way to his fuck-up.
Sweed's problems are nothing that can't be solved with more playing time. That mofo knows how to get open...a sorely needed skill in our WR corps.

Re: Good news on Mendenhall
I must admit I have been a bit concerned that Mendenhall has not been more of a fixture at the Steelers facility. Good article today in the trib review about it and they said he has been around quite a bit.
Obviously he can not practice with the team but hopefully will report to camp with a good knowledge of the offense so he just let his instincts taken over.
Now lets get back to SB talk.
