fitz question

Postby steelmoney » Tue Jan 27, 2009 1:19 pm

is there data anywhere that would demonstrate fitz's success against the jam versus the free-release?
the number of times he was doubled versus single coverage and his relative success?

is re-watching some of the nfc championship i was floored by how many times he was given a free release off the line

No WR likes to get jammed at the line. Manning used to bitch constantly about the Patriots jamming Marvin at the line during their playoff battles. McLovin is no Dick LeBeau, but it stands to reason he would have IKE and McFadden up closer to the wrs to get a jam rather than playing their usual 10 yds back. Sometimes you can't even see IKE on the screen he plays so far off!

steelmoney is picking up what mclovin is putting down

directionally it would make intuitive sense that getting jammed is bad news for a timing offense such as the redbirds' (of course it would also stand to reason that it would open up vulnerabilities to the deep routes if the pass rush doesn't get to captain kurt quickly enough)

i was looking for actual data

Unforturnately McLovin' working on his PHD in education not football...that would be some tough data to find but one could easily hypothesize that wide receivers are less effective when they are jammed at the line of scrimmage. As Money said, it disrupts the timing between qb and wr and Warner a timing qb not an improvisor like Ben.

fitz will have a good game if there is no pressure, if there is pressure it will be very hard to pass altogether for Warner.

Not the numbers you are looking for, but saw these numbers that Fitz is playing at 213 pounds instead of 228.
He might be easier to jam than last season.

Bob McManaman and Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald is playing at a weight of 213 pounds, down from 228 pounds last season. Fitzgerald made losing weight a goal in the offseason, because he thought it would help his quickness and speed. Fitzgerald's lighter weight is one reason he's improved at running after the catch this season. "I'm definitely able to sustain my speed a lot longer," Fitzgerald said. "My endurance is better. I can run down the field repeatedly and I don't get winded. I think a lot of that is a tribute to John Lott (strength and conditioning coach)."
