Great article with a minor quibble. I don't consider Pittsburgh to be Midwestern at all. It's not really Eastern either the way Philly is. I doubt the city or its residents would want to be considered part of Appalachia but when you eliminate the alternatives there it is.

The Midwest is Chicago, Indy, St. Louis, Columbus.

The Lakers and Yankees have some built-in advantages that the Steelers don't have. The NBA doesn't exactly have a hard cap, so the Lakers can use their superior resources like the Yankees do. And if you are a star on the Lakers, you can make movies. If you are a star on the Steelers, you can make Giant Eagle commercials. Though - in fairness - Jerry West was a genius.

I think the Steelers get more out of their resources than anyone. If the Spurs can continue success beyond Duncan, they could steal that title though.
