Dick vs Bruce

Postby McLovin » Tue Jan 20, 2009 2:54 pm

While Bantering with Mill about his disdain toward Dick Lebeau it dawned on McLovin how lucky the Steelers are that Dick is on Tomlin's staff. See if any of you astute football minds agree. McLovin's point to Mill about Dick is that he and his staff are the exact opposite of their offensive counterparts. They actually coach and teach players the game of football. Look at Troy Polamalu...half of you called him a bust after his rookie season. The reality was he needed coaching. Who gave it to him? Dick did. How about James harrison a FA from Kent. He was cut from Steelers AND Ravens and now is the NFL's Defensive MVP. Who coached him? Dick did. Ike Taylor...all the athletic ability in the world...no clue how to play football. Who coached him? Dick did. Lamar Woodley...a DE in college now the best pass rusher in the playoffs...who coached him? Dick did. Who has Arians or Larry Porn COACHED? Willie Colon? Stapleton? Kemo? Sweed? Spaeth? Where are the signs that this group are going to get the coaching they need to excel on the offensive side of the ball? It bares repeating ....LeBeau is like a sore Dick...you just can't beat him!

a very interesting point of view...

our defense has great coaching but the talent was lacking

and our offense has great talent, but the coaching is getting in the way
(and before sweed gets brought up in regards to "having talent", he may have it, he may not. we don't know because smartguy bruce never thought to play him much during the season)

The bottom line is that coaches on both sides of the ball are at the mercy of Kevin Colbert. They have to live with the players he selects. The defense cultivates many of the players given to them by Colbert regardless of the round they were selected players like Taylor, Harrison, Keisel, Smitty all developmental types the staff turned into quality starters. There have been misses too like Colclough, Zo Jackson, and Ryan McBeam to be certain. But the offensive coaches...especially Larry Porn...damn dude develop somebody, anybody! Kemo, Stapleton, Colon, Starks, Essex??? Week after agonizing week Colon commits a stupid penalty...why is Porn not correcting this?! As for Sweed Ed Douchette reported that the drops and obvious lack of confidence and concentration have plagued Sweed since mini-camp. BUT where is the coaching to help this guy?
