James Harrison 2008 Defensive POY!
Nice job James!
NEW YORK -- Linebacker James Harrison, the best player on the NFL's best defense, won The Associated Press 2008 Defensive Player of the Year award.
The announcement was made Monday.
Harrison, whose career-high 16 sacks set a team record, also led the NFL with a career-high seven forced fumbles. He beat Dallas' DeMarcus Ware in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcaster. Pittsburgh's latest version of the Steel Curtain was the league's stingiest in total defense, pass defense and points allowed.
Harrison earned 22 votes to 13 for Ware.

Finally some recognition.
I was afraid someone would lobby for Reed.

Congrats James - I have thoroughly enjoyed him man-handling opponents the past 2 seasons.
I really thought Reed was going to take it.....

TOUGHER SCHEDULE...TOUGHER COMPETITION....SILVERBACK IS GOLDEN IN MY BOOK
Re: James Harrison 2008 Defensive POY!
Awards on regular season play only should be abolished.
League MVP, Coach of the Year = one and done in the playoffs.
Fortunately Harrison does not seem to be the kind of guy who lets this sort of drivel get to his head. Even though he did deserve it.

Congrats to him, he definitely deserved it, even if he is a system player.
Re: James Harrison 2008 Defensive POY!
System player my ass.
He also managed to log over 100+ tackles this season. He's not blessed with the body of many in the NFL but he hustles and busts his rear end every play and makes way more than his fair share of plays. He definitely is no Joey Porter.

Reached for comment on the award, Harrison said "Yeah, it's nice, but I'm more proud of my six Hard Hat awards from Stillers.com."

No, he is no Joey Porter. Also, he has a pretty good body, no homo. I don't know what you mean by that.
But to go from undrafted to DPOY, even in the Steelers system, I gotta give respect.

Re: James Harrison 2008 Defensive POY!
I'll always remember on the SB DVD of '05.. first game against Tennessee where he had a penalty against him. Cowher went over and said something to him, and he responded "Shit Happens." Cowher said that was one of the best comebacks a player ever said to him and that he had nothin' to say to it.
The guy means absolute business and has a face of stone. Helps that he is a Silverback Gorilla and a complete power freak of nature.
Congrats to Silverback and representing the best defense in the league, and Pittsburgh itself.

It has been a pleasure watching Harrison rise to prominance (and Dominance). He is relentless!

It is possible, happened before, it'll happen again.

Always was pissed Cowher wasn't perceptive enough to realize how valuable this guy was to the team. He should have been a starter for the 2 years Joey was here as well... he blows Joey out of the water. So glad he is finally getting the recognition he deserves but it does suck seeing all the Harrison jerseys out there now as I was one of a half dozen 3 years ago.
It would be nice to see him leap over LT again this weekend on an INT return.

Mike & Mike seemed to think Ed Reed deserved it.
I got to go with Harrison though.

Ed Reed, while a great player, is just the flavor of the minute due to his performance against the Fins.
He's most fresh in a lot of people's minds, especially people whose job it is to stir up controversy.
I agree, though, Harrison has been a monster this year and I'm glad he's on our side.
