Venting after watching the wild card
After watching all the playoff games and contrasting the offenses of all the teams vs. our offense I need to let off some steam. Every offense I watched was a better run, better coached unit than our offense.
The Steeler offense has underperformed all year. As has been pointed out on this website many times the offense has no identity. They aren't crisp, they take terrible penalties, Ben holds the ball too long, they mismanage the playclock and let it run down constantly. The QB and receivers are on different song sheets too many times, the line isn't terribly good at run blocking or pass protection, 3rd and two may as well be 3rd and twenty, the play calling is amateurish and without strategy. The ONLY offensive bright side this year has been Mewelde Moore and in true Arians fashion his play time has been reduced significantly the last couple of games. Unfortunately this is what we got and all we as faithful Steeler fans can hope and pray for is that this blind squirrel of an offense can avoid screw ups and find a few nuts along the way.
If the offense can avoid turnovers the Steelers Offense might bumble their way past the Chargers because I don't think the Chargers are that good. However I have to wear my rosiest color glasses to see this Steeler offense not getting eaten alive by the Titans or the Ravens part 3. While the Ravens have been steadily improving offensively all season with a rookie QB the rag tag Steeler offense has shown no improvement at all this season. It all comes down to coaching. Even though the Ravens offense is green they are a very well coached unit and it shows. They know their identity and play to their strengths. The Steelers offense is disgraceful.
I feel better now.

Re: Venting after watching the wild card
I share your frustration. We have no offensive line. This means we have no consistent running game at all. Many, many plays go for absolutely no yardage or maybe one or two yards at most. Other teams do much better.
The lack of an O-Line also means we have way too much pressure on our QB all the time. You can try to claim Ben holds the ball too long, but the vast majority of the lapses are caused by our O-Line and blocking schemes. Time and again, defenses run free or have multiple guys just abuse their corresponding lineman one on one and hit Ben.
If you have been watching lately, Heath Miller has even started to get embarrased on various plays as a blocker. I have no idea if he is still hurt or what, but he is now getting abused regularly and being called for holding which kills drives.
On the whole, I doubt there is much we can do to fix this now. The Steelers have undoubtedly tried to do what they can. You also need to examine our personnel. We have Ben -- a down the field QB that is not at his best with the dink and dunk game. We have no real number four receiver right now. Except for maybe Santonio, we do not have anyone that scares opponents on slants or short catch and run plays. And Santonio is not exactly the second coming of Az Hakim in his Ram days. We do have a couple receivers that may be able to get deep, but with no O-Line opponents figure Ben will not be able to hold the ball long enough to make those throws.
No good team expects Parker to do anything against it. The guy we miss badly is Mendenhall assuming he became as good as was hoped. Maybe next year for him and Sweed.
I agree that Moore is a nice addition that can perhaps add some yardage on a few short throws. Again though, Ben is not real good at throwing those. Just watch that Cowboy game again. Yikes.
Let's hope they pull through anyway.

What do you ,ean they have no identity?
They are world renown as " Tomlin and Arians' Bumbling Boneheads" Starring that overpaid and underperforming want to be QB Ben Windshieldburger with the Super talented Offensive line "The Alzeimers" (They can't remember to block anyone). They have a brilliant H.C. who knows the game plan and the plays being called but allows his bedbuddy Arians continue to call stupid plays while allowing his Big buddy Ben to ignore any coaching that Kenny attemps to accomplish.

Very Funny stuff.
Re: Venting after watching the wild card
our line stinks - period.
We all have known this going for 2 straight years and knew the disaster looming after Hartings and Faneca were to leave. (and the pending disaster next year barring a stellar FA move or 2)
Thanks Cowher, Grimm, and Colbert.
We know what a good / great line can be and we became spoiled with that thru most of the 90's - we just had no franchise QB
We now have the QB but not the line.
Oh well.........still GREAT to be a Steelers fan here in early JAN almost every year.
