Why was the hit on Big Ben not a penalty???
why in god's name was that not a fucking penalty???? that was clearly roughing the passer. If that would have been Peyton Manning or Brett Favre, that would have been the call, but since it was only Ben, those dicks didnt call the flag. unbelieveable to see that crap happen. Anyone agree or disagree??

I'm on the fence there, sir...
At the time, I felt it should have been a penalty but after watching the replay and reminding myself it's football... I'uno.
I agree that anyone else, 9 times out of 10... It's flagged. But really, after watching the replay a couple times (Man.. They sure did like replaying it over and over and over, didn't they?) it looked fine.

I don't know if it was a penalty, but I will admit, that was the exact same thought I had when I first saw it. I was in utter shock the refs didn't throw a flag for that. We all have seen a lot less get called!

I hate to say it, but that was NOT a penalty. Two players hit him simultaneously as he released the ball, and slammed him to the turf. Vicious hit, but perfectly legal.
I just hope we clean house on the OL before Ben (or Lefty) gets hurt more seriously.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

I wouldn't call it a penalty but the rule states that they are not to ride him to the ground and it did not appear that either defender let go or made any attempt to not land on him. So I guess by the rule it should have been a penalty

It wasn't a malicious hit. If you watch the replay you can see that Wimbley didn't plant all his weight on Ben. You can see him extending his arms as hes falling to try and stop his body from fully smothering Ben as he was going to the ground.

definately not a penalty. Not late, did not go at QB's head. Just one of those football injuries that happens.
Maybe we should be glad they did not put field turf in Pgh. With a harder surface it may have been worse.

Because it was a clean hit. See Ryan Clark on Wes Welker

They're playing football. Unfortunately somebody got hurt. Just because he's a qb doesn't mean he can't be hit. He wears football pads for a reason. I would have been bitching if they did throw a flag.
Re: Why was the hit on Big Ben not a penalty???
Agree that this was a good non-call -- BUT -- this is the type of hit that gets flagged pretty routinely in the last couple of years.
Also, I love Ben -- BUT -- I think the turf nap and the ambulance ride were a bit much, and in keeping with the drama queen label.

Titan
To answer your question NO
To assume that you have a free pass all the way to the big dance is hillarious. But Ilike it because it usually means DEFEAT.

good point. thanks everyone. I know its football and I love to see good hits but the fact that the referees are being inconsistent with these unnecessary roughness calls is killing me. Either you call it or you don't. Referees did a horrible job this season, horrible.

I don't think hits like that should ever be flagged. But, didn't someone get flagged for "falling with their full weight on a qb"? I mean what the fuck? If the zebras are gonna throw bullshit, at least spread it even.
