Ben's Spike

Postby indysteel » Sun Dec 14, 2008 9:17 pm

So why did Ben spike the ball instead of actually running a play towards the final play of the game?

Geez, some times, I think he drinks way to much "dumb ass juice" before each game.

Agreed.

We could have used that play. No reason they could not have called the play at the line. Only would have take 5-6 seconds. I did not get that one either.

Wasted a play that almost cost us.

So who would have gone for it on 4th down? I think I would have but only with a
QB sneak. :sudancin:

I absolutely would have went for it! Fourth and three inches you dont get that you dont deserve to win, if you head into overtime its essentially 50/50

I bet Tomlin would have kicked the FG.

Hell, who could blame him.....we've routinely been stuffed on short yardage all year.

Better to tie, and go OT.

Did anyone see Tomlin's post game interview?

He would not tip his hand to say if he would have went for it or not.

Oh well, keep the rest of the league guessing for another week or two.

You have to admit it would take real balls to have gone for it there.

Yes, I thought it was a bad idea to spike the ball too. I'd never opt to spike the ball unless there wasn't enough time left to turn it over on downs. Or if the field goal team needs to get on the field. Other than that, throw a pass into the end zone or to the sideline.

And why did they call timeout with 26 seconds left on (as it stood then) 4th down? Or did the officials stop the clock? I saw BB signaling timeout. If it had turned out to be 4th down, they were leaving some time on the clock for Baltimore to try to score.

Why waste the down in the RZ when you might've needed it?
I'd've taken the 3 and taken my chances in OT at the end.

They don't ask you how you won, they ask if you won.

Actually, I think the spike call came from the sideline. I thought for sure I saw Arians telling him to spike it.

Yep, I'd agree that has Arians written all over it.

from a nice article today by Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports at http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=A ... &type=lgns

“We were going to go for it,” Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu confirmed afterward. “We had to. We had made the decision, because that’s how it had to be. You don’t deserve to go to the Super Bowl, to the playoffs, if you don’t have the guts to do that. I think [the Ravens] really would’ve respected that, whether we made it or not.”
