Looks like he is out again against the PATS. Why can't we put him on IR already so we can bring in another tackle?

Another Tackle like who?
No one is available that is worth a damn.

Marvel might be available for the play offs, but not if we put him on IR.

Why the hell is "back spasms" keeping him out so friggin long? He's been out for around 60 days. The Steelers need to make a decision. If a lineman goes down, we at least need bodies in there.

Don't knock back pain. It took me about 3 years to completely heal from a back injury, and it still hurts ocassionally.

I also have had a chronic back condition that gave me occasional back spasms. I was told that mine was caused by weak lower back muscles that aren't strong enough to consistently support my spine.

The spasms can be quite debilitating. One spasm can nearly immobilize me for a day or two. They can be triggered by something as simple as walking up a flight of steps (happened to me walking to class in college once) or bending down to tie your shoe (happened before playing in a high school football game). Even worse, you have no idea when they're going occur. I worked out every day and played at least one full contact, tackle, football game per week while in college. So by all accounts, I was perfectly healthy. Then, as I mentioned, a perfectly trivial task could just about cripple me, temporarily.

I've had x-rays and exams done on my back and the most I ever got was "sorry, not much we can do. Here's a list of excercises you can do to try and strengthen those muscles though."

Over the past few years, the spasms themselves have nearly stopped, although my back is in almost constant pain.

Marvel is probably in a similar situation I was in, except I'd bet his spasms come with a much greater frequency. It is something than can potentially go away, so maybe they're hoping that happens by the end of the year.

Or maybe it's something entirely different. I don't know, I'm just trying to answer the question of "Why the hell is "back spasms" keeping him out so friggin long?"

He sucks anyway so I say we cut him. He certainly isn't worth the high price they are paying him with the tag and all.

I can't imagine having a job where it's your responsibility to collide violently with 300 pound men 60 or 70 times with chronic back pain. I was in a car wreck in May and was doubled over from the impact a few days later... gained 10 pounds over the summer because I just couldn't or didn't want to move. Chiropractor helped fix me, but I'm careful with it now...

I have to wonder if Marvel's ever going to play effectively again. I wonder if he's thinking retirement - and if he's not, maybe he should be. He's going to have trouble getting a deal in free agency - there's nobody in the league dumb enough to risk paying him with that injury history now that Matt Millen's gone.
