Rams release Kreider -- bring him back??
There's gotta be some flotsam on the roster that we can jettison....
The Rams made several roster moves Tuesday, cutting starting fullback Dan Kreider and placing starting center Nick Leckey (broken foot) on injured reserve. Replacing them on the active roster are center Cory Withrow and outside linebacker Larry Grant. With Leckey done for the year, coach Jim Haslett told the Post-Dispatch that Brett Romberg would start at center Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
Kreider did a decent job as a lead blocker in the running game, but gave up a couple of costly sacks in pass protection. It was Kreider’s man, Arizona safety Adrian Wilson, who sacked quarterback Marc Bulger, forcing a fumble that the Cardinals recovered. Kreider’s playing time was reduced significantly after that. The team will use tight ends Daniel Fells and Joe Klopfenstein as lead blockers in the backfield.

YES!
I miss the days of seeing Kreider beating the living piss out of opposing linebackers. Goal line situations were so much more exciting. I cared more about seeing Dan crushing someone than I did about us actually scoring (although the two generally went hand-in-hand).
Yeah, he's older now, probably not effective. But I want some pseudo-nostalgia back to the days of 2005, damnit!

Two things struck me about this article:
-- That's TWO, count 'em, TWO Super Bowl winning fullbacks the Rams have managed to cut in two years, Madison Hedgecock and now Kreider. They really need to understand what the heck fuels their running game.
-- The Rams/Cardinals game was four NFL weeks ago, on the 2nd. I wouldn't want to play for a guy that doghouses me and then cuts me for a sack.

I've never like Haslett, even if he is an IUP alumn. That said, that organization has a helluva lot more problems than a FB missing a block right now. I hate to see Dan taking the fall like that, but such is life in the NFL, I guess.

Carey Davis has never knocked out Ray (the Blade) Lewis. Kreider has.
Ray-Ray threatened to kill Kreider after #35 kicked his butt....repeatedly.
Kreider can also get a yard when yinz need it.
He probably could catch the ball if someone threw it to him.
Come home, Dan.

I've always been convinced that Dan either talks in Hulk-like grunts ("DAN SMASH!!!!"), or with an English accent (after knocking someone on their keister, "Cheerio. Good show ol' chap!")
It's one or the other, there's no middle ground.
