If Tagliabue ran for president, he'd instantly have my vote. The man was very good at seeing the bigger picture and understanding the balance of giving the people what they wanted without losing site of the league's origins.

On top of that, Tags and Upshaw were both smart enough to realize that they could work together, instead of against one another, to maximize the popularity of the league, benefiting the league itself AND the players at the same time. If I remember correctly (not guaranteed by any means), the collective bargaining agreement reaches a big milestone in the next year or two where one of the sides can opt out of the current deal, which expires in 2012. If that's true, then I fear the worst now that we're not guaranteed to have that cohesion between the two parties.

I know Rozelle set a lot of things in motion that got the league to where it's at today, but Tagliabue was the one that saw those plans through to give the NFL its current "Juggernaut" status among professional sports.

Goodell worries me...A LOT.
