Tomlin

Postby UncleDick » Mon Nov 10, 2008 2:07 pm

I like Tomlin (always have), but sometimes it seems like he is more involved being a fucking spectator then coaching the team. He has said himself that sometimes he needs to catch himself during the game to go over to talk to the Oline or Defense.

I know he is young and needs to develop and all that shit, but there should be a time when someone pulls him aside and tells him that it is his team and he needs to fix shit. He is the one who will ultimately be responsible and sometimes it just seems like he wants to be best friends with the players rather than be thier boss. You gotta be an asshole sometimes. Not by any means saying fire him, but it is time for him to take over.

Perhaps he can watch Arizona tonight, and we can all wonder.

A good place to start would be to fire Zierlein and Arians.

His biggest mistake was not telling Ben "You haven't practiced, and you ain't right. Lefty will pick the Colts' game up for you. Get better".

It'll be harder to bench him now if he needs to.

We faded last year. We are fading now. Can he motivate? My take is that the D is getting pissed at the O. I don't think it's Ben. I think It's Arians. Notice how Ward isn't smiling anymore? He hasn't in 3 weeks. The O player know that Arians is retarded...and the D knows too, and they are pissed. Tomlin must make a change. And soon.

I wouldn't mind Tomlin taking over the play calling and controls of the game from Arians. I am seriously turning into an Arians hater, something I'm not known for as a fan. Is Mike too young to take over an offense or does he have the experience to take over offensive play calls? Who knows, but what we do know is how football intelligent the man is, and how well he works with his players. Maybe with a change in the guard by having Tomlin control the play calls will boost a new confidence in this woeful offense. Time will tell. We'll see if he has enough balls.

I blame the FO for not hiring a veteran offensive coordinator for
Tomlin like they did for Cowher (Erhardt). The coaching on offense
has been erratic at best and unfortunately we have seen nothing to
show us that they won't continue to get outcoached in big games.

If Ben is hurting then I blame Tomlin for not "coaching" and resting
Ben for week. If Ben is healthy enough to play....well then the
Steelers have bigger problems than finding a few good assistant
coaches

The Steelers had a chance in the offseason to bring Chan Gailey
in as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator and decided
to keep the coaching staff together and expect different results.
I suppose just getting to the playoffs is good enough for this
franchise for now.

I hate to say it but in one offseason the Baltimore Ravens hired a
head coach that wasn't as green as Tomlin, hired a qualified offensive
coordinator, and retained a great defensive coordinator. Who doesn't
expect the December game in Baltimore to be yet another game where the
Steelers are completely outcoached.

Dick Lebeau is keeping this team from becoming the Cleveland Browns.

I don't think that this team is fading, but I do think that you are right about Tomlins not wanting to make a move. Maybe he's afraid that the move won't work out and it'll come back on him. If that is so, then he does need to go.

When the team is playing so piss poorly and so inconsistently from week to week, that reflects poorly on the coaching, from the top down. You can't expect these guys to self motivate. Look at the 9ers. They've been playing in a funk all year, Singletary has them for one week, benches his starting QB, tells his TE to go take a fucking hike, and moons the entire team at halftime of the game.

They came out playing inspired this week and, though they lost, they had a chance right up until the end of the game because of how they played (not in spite of it, like the Steelers this week). Plus, Singletary got a hug from his TE this week as if to say, thanks for the kick in the ass, Coach.

Tomlin needs to make a move, or he's going to end up sitting on his thumb. I like Tomlin, too, and thought he was the best guy for the job. I'm starting to wonder now that Singletary's name came up in rumors and we had Whiz here the whole time.

I just can't put my finger on what the root cause is. Is it coaching? The putrid line? Ben's desire to be Superfuckingman on every play that leads him to take more hits and get hurt more often? But, something stinks and it stinks about every other week.

I still think that this team will make the playoffs, probably by winning the division, but then they'll just be exposed in the playoffs as the pretenders that they are, just like last year against Jax.

Ah well.

Is stainless brainless? Does stainless really want a former secondary coach and 1 yr defensive coordinator calling the offensive plays? McLovin's seen some preposterous suggestions on this little site but this one trumps them all.
