Hard
Hat Award (Game #1, @ Balt.)
No one is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the
iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast
furnace of a still mill.
In the season-opening game against the teams
most bitter rival, the Stillers came out punch-drunk from their Super Bowl
game, and proceeded to get bullied, mauled, and humiliated in every phase of
the game. It was a brutal assbeating,
in which just about every player not only fell out of total contention for the
coveted Hard Hat, but also embarrassed himself, his team, his city, and
its fans.
Only a couple players even merited minor
consideration.
Ike Taylor had a stellar game in coverage,
smothering Lee Evans. Ike may have won The
Hat, but his sophomoric preening after a rare 3rd down stop while down
by 20+ points in the 2nd half was unacceptable. So, too, was his girlish unsportsmanlike
conduct that set off the melee late in the 3Q.
Mike Wallace had a solid day, snaring 8 passes
for 108 yards. Certainly a solid effort,
but not enough to convince The Committee.
Kudos to no one for winning the Hard
Hat Award. Dont wear the Hard
Hat proudly, fellas.
