Hard
Hat Award (Game #12, @ Balt.)
Stiller QB Benji Roethlisberger is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who
best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers
inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
In one of the most lopsided and fastest deliberations this
august Committee has ever conducted, BenRoth was confirmed the Hard Hat winner after about
16 seconds of discussion.
Ben entered the game with a protective boot on his one foot,
due to having a broken bone. Soon after
the game began, Ben was on the wrong end of a vicious fore-arm to the face by
Raven NT Hloti Ngata, which
broke Bens nose. (No flag, of
course.) So here you have a QB with a
painful broken foot, a painful broken nose, and having to deal with the usual
tumult in a road venue.
Undaunted, Ben plugged away, even suffering a shabby 1st
half. In the 2nd half, Ben was mostly on
fire, and led the O to a come from behind victory. Ben made 2 huge plays to snatch this victory from
the jaws of defeat:
 - On the final play of the 3Q, it was
vintage Ben, eluding a blitzing DB and scrambling right, and then hitting
Sanders for 28 yards.
 - Then,
on the late 1st & goal at the 10, he saved the game, when on 1st & G at
the 10, he fought off Suggs --- literally toe to toe -- and managed to
lunge-pitch the ball for a sack-saving TA.
When you see the different TV
angles of Ben warding off Suggs -- who is a bear of a man -- after Suggs
rabidly grabbed and wrenched Bens helmet.... well, that is Hard
Hat football.
Others in consideration by The Committee were RB Isaac Redman, LB Jamie Harrison, SS Troy
Pola, and kicker/punter Shaun Suisham.
Kudos to Roethlisberger for winning the Hard
Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Benji
!
