Hard Hat Award (Game #9, vs. N.E.)
Stiller RB Mewelde Moore is the winners of the weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
In a game in which the Stillers got bitch-slapped and ass-whipped in every phase of the game, Moore was the lone standout that played hard, tough football from beginning to end. He ground out a lot of tough yards, to include 2 TDs in which he was hit well before the GL but kept burrowing and driving for the score. On his RACs, he also showed superb determination and effort.
As is typical in a losing effort -- especially in a brutal assbeating like this one -- very few Stillers were even in consideration by The Committee. Timmons had a gritty game, before leaving with a hip pointer. Thats about it. Most every other player mimicked the defensive coordinator and played a yellow, callow, chickenshit brand of football. It bears repeating that there is almost always -- if not always -- a strong correlation between the number of players in consideration for the Hard Hat, and if the team won or lost. Simply put, Hard Hat kind of football leads to victory; pansy football (a term used here long before Troy Pola popularized it) leads to defeat.
