Hard Hat Award (Game #4, vs. Balt.)

Hard Hat Award (Game #4, vs. Balt.)

Stiller punter Daniel Sepulveda is the winner of the weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.

Its rare for a punter to garner this prestigious award, but Sepul was really the lone Stiller who consistently executed his job to the utmost of his ability in the loss to the Ratbirds.   He punted the ball 5 times, booming it to the tune of just under 50 yards per punt.   There were no shanks or booming blasts thru the EZ for harmless TBs.  Very late in the game, punting from the back of his EZ, Sepulveda came through under pressure and booted a 47-yard punt that was high enough to force a fair catch.  That, Stiller fans, was grace under pressure.

As is typical in a losing effort, very few Stillers were even in consideration by The Committee.   Timmons and Harrison were the lead consideration-getters, each giving a fairly strong, solid effort and showing good hustle.   Thats about it, and its a rather sad situation when so few players gave the kind of effort expected for the Hard Hat against the teams most bitter rival.   The defense was soft n cheesy, and the offense played grabass the entire game.   It bears repeating that there is almost always -- if not always -- a strong correlation between the number of players in consideration for the Hard Hat, and if the team won or lost.  Simply put, Hard Hat kind of football leads to victory; pansy football (a term used here long before Troy Pola popularized it) leads to defeat.

Kudos to Speulveda for winning the Hard Hat Award.  Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Daniel !
