Rnk | LW* | Team | Record | Comments |
1. | 1. | Indianapolis Colts | 14-0 | Regular season winning streak stands at 23 games. Have won 7 games this season after trailing in the 4th quarter and 7 games by 4 points or less. |
2. | 2. | New Orleans Saints | 13-1 | Deserve a mulligan. |
3. | 3. | San Diego Chargers | 11-3 | Could Rivers join Roethlisberger and Manning the younger as members of the class of '04 to make the Super Bowl. Not if Manning the elder has any say in the matter. |
4. | 6. | Philadelphia Eagles | 10-4 | Clinched a playoff berth. Could still blow the division if the Cowboys win out including a head-to-head matchup in the final week in Dallas. |
5. | 4. | Minnesota Vikings | 11-3 | Soap Opera staring Childress and Favre obscures the fact that Purple Jesus has been held under 4 yards per carry in 7 of his last 8 games. |
6. | 9. | New England Patriots | 9-5 | Win in Buffalo was their first on the road this season in the continental United States. Only other road win came in London. |
7. | 8. | Arizona Cardinals | 9-5 | Clinched their division and pretty much locked in as the 4th seed in the NFC. |
8. | 7. | Cincinnati Bengals | 9-5 | Dreams of a 1st round bye ended with loss to the Chargers. How will Tuesday's trip to Louisiana for Henry's funeral affect them? |
9. | 5. | Green Bay Packers | 9-5 | Pass defense exposed in Pittsburgh. |
10. | 12. | Dallas Cowboys | 9-5 | Can't afford another December slip up with the Giants hot on their tails holding the tie breaker thanks to a season series sweep. |
11. | 11. | New York Giants | 8-6 | Need help. |
12. | 15. | Baltimore Ravens | 8-6 | Control their own destiny. |
13. | 10. | Denver Broncos | 8-6 | Also control their own destiny. Not sure whether that is good or bad considering they have lost 6 of their last 8 including the last 2. |
14. | 17. | Tennessee Titans | 7-7 | Season ending injuries to LBs Bulluck and Thornton are a severe blow to the defense. |
15. | 20. | Pittsburgh Steelers | 7-7 | Roethlisberger and Wallace got Tomlin off the hook for his decision to try an onside kick leading by 2 with under 4 minutes remaining. Roethlisberger joined Tittle and Moon as the only NFL QBs to have 500 yards passing and 3 TDs in a game without throwing an interception. Roethlisberger broke Maddux's franchise single game passing yardage record and Bradshaw's single season passing yardage record. Ward joined Holmes as the second receiver tandem in franchise history to both top 1000 yards receiving in a single season. Miller broke Green's franchise record for receptions by a TE. Too bad the defense has fallen apart completely. |
16. | 19. | Houston Texans | 7-7 | A 3rd straight .500 season may not be enough to save Kubiak's job. |
17. | 13. | Miami Dolphins | 7-7 | Williams topped 1000 yards rushing for the first time since 2003, the longest gap between 1000 yard seasons in league history. |
18. | 16. | Jacksonville Jaguars | 7-7 | Somewhat surprising bounce back season could be ended by back-to-back trips to Indianapolis and Foxboro. |
19. | 21. | Atlanta Falcons | 7-7 | Showed pride with an improbable win in the swamps of Jersey after being officially eliminated from the playoffs by the Cowboys on Saturday night. |
20. | 14. | New York Jets | 7-7 | Controlled the game against the Falcons from the opening whistle only to have the defense come up short when it mattered most in the final minutes. Sanchez throwing 3 more interceptions didn't help of course. |
21. | 22. | Carolina Panthers | 6-8 | Prime time victory over the Vikings showed what might have been. |
22. | 18. | San Fransisco 49ers | 6-8 | Should finish at .500 with games remaining against the Lions and Rams. A step in the right direction all things considered. |
23. | 27. | Oakland Raiders | 5-9 | Frye gets another start despite Russell leading a comeback victory in relief last week. |
24. | 23. | Chicago Bears | 5-9 | Snow storm made it difficult for them to get to Baltimore. Probably should have just stayed home. |
25. | 24. | Buffalo Bills | 5-9 | Likely will be forced to try Brohm at QB due to injuries to Edwards and Fitzpatrick. How could he be any worse? |
26. | 26. | Washington Redskins | 4-10 | Putting Zorn out of his misery immediately would be the humane thing to do. |
27. | 29. | Cleveland Browns | 3-11 | Harrison smashed Brown's single game franchise rushing record. Cribbs broke the NFL record for most career kick return touchdowns. Helluva day in Cleveland. |
28. | 31. | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 2-12 | When is a win really a loss? When it costs you Suh. |
29. | 25. | Seattle Seahawks | 5-9 | Continue to drift aimlessly after being turned down by Holmgren. |
30. | 28. | Kansas City Chiefs | 3-11 | Run defense is a laughing stock. |
31. | 30. | Detriot Lions | 2-12 | Schwartz needs time.... And better players. |
32. | 32. | St. Louis Rams | 1-13 | Front runners in the Suh derby. |
