Best Bet Plus Two (week 10)

November 11, 2009 by Steel Haven

Another 1-2 week as I continue to sink like a stone. The pair of games I lost were brutal. No win by too few points or backdoor cover for me. Both favorites were beaten outright in embarrassing fashion after taking leads into halftime. My best bet the 49ers blew a 7 point halftime lead with Alex Smith throwing a pick-6 against the Titans moribund pass defense. Smith ended up throwing 3 interceptions on the day. The Packers had an 11 point fourth quarter lead before giving up 21 unanswered points to a winless Buccaneers squad that had not previously scored 21 point in an entire game this season. Only the Redskins saved me from complete disaster. Hail Redskins!

This is the last week of byes with only the Giants and Texans not playing. The dregs of the league are all back on the field. My experiences with the Packers last week in Tampa and the Niners against the Titans has not changed my outlook. I am picking all favorites against three teams with a total of four wins.

Best Bet

Denver Broncos (-3.5) over Washington Redskins

Back to the well. The Redskins have been good to me. I thought the Broncos would take a step back after the bye. Playing the desperate Ravens in Baltimore and road warrior Steelers at home is no easy task. The Redskins of course are a whole different ballgame. I think this line is an over reaction to the Broncos performance the last two weeks against superior competition. Now I just need to pray Kyle Orton hasn't gone in the tank.

Others

Miami Dolphins (-10) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Back to the well again. Last week the Buccaneers stung me. Not only that I was also beaten by the Titans playing on the road after winning their first game at home. The exact situation in which the Buccaneers currently find themselves. I spit at the concept of learning from the past.

Baltimore Ravens (-10.5) over Cleveland Browns

This is tough. The Falcons giving up only 1.5 in Carolina tempted me as did the Saints laying 13.5 in St. Louis. In the end I figure you can't go wrong betting against Eric Mangini and Brady Quinn. No doubt the Ravens defense is in decline. Shouldn't matter against the Browns.

Last week

San Fransisco 49ers (-4) over Tennessee Titans LOSS

Atlanta Falcons (-10) over Washington Redskins WIN

Green Bay Packers (-10) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers LOSS

Record to date: 16-11   Best bets: 5-4
