Jan. '93, vs. Buff

PGH

Stillers

LOSS, 24-3

3

A complete and thorough assbeating in every phase of the game.

Jan. '94, @ KC

KC

Chiefs, by only a few

LOSS, 27-24 (OT)

4

Slop & slather against a weak KC team "led" by Cowher's father, Marty Shittenheimer.Special teams blunder and softee defense helped pull defeat from victory.

Jan. '95, vs Clev

PGH

Stillers

Win, 29-9

8

A rare, strong all-around, intense playoff effort from a Cowher-coached team.

Jan. '95, vs. SD

AFC Title game

PGH

Stillers, by 10

LOSS, 17-13

1

Slop & slather against a weak SD team. An absolutely horrific, embarrassing defeat.

Jan. '96, vs. Buff

PGH

Stillers

Win, 40-21

5

Easy win over an over-the-hill, past-their-prime Bills team that was in rabid decline.

Jan. '96, vs. Indy

AFC Title game

PGH

Stillers, by at least 10

Win, 20-16

1

Overt slop & slather against a weak, injury-riddled Indy team. This game should have easily been a 17-20 point blowout.

Jan. '96, vs. Dall (Sup Bowl)

Tempe

Dallas, by a few

LOSS, 27-17

6

Insistence on going with scatback Erric Pegram for most of 1st half, along with a total befuddlement of the Dallas offense, forced Stillers to play catch-up football.

Jan. '96, vs. Indy

PGH

Stillers

Win, 42-10

6

Easy win over a very weak Indy team.

Jan. '97, @ NE

NE

Patriots, by a few

LOSS, 28-3

2

A complete and thorough assbeating by Parcells and the Pats.

Jan. '98, vs. NE

PGH

Stillers

Win, 7-6

1

Complete slop & slather against a weak, injury-ravaged Pats team.A team stink of enormous magnitude.

Jan. '98, vs. Denv.

AFC Title game

PGH

Stillers

LOSS, 24-21

6

Cowhard ignored a hefty lead and a rumbling ground game, and forced his young QB to make difficult passes into double & triple coverage. Adjustments by Shanahan, both since the Pgh. win over Denver 8 weeks prior and at the halftime, showed his vast superiority over Cowhard.

Jan. '02, vs. Balt.

PGH

Stillers

Win, 27-10

8

A rare, strong all-around, intense playoff effort from a Cowher-coached team.

Jan. '02, vs NE

AFC Title game

PGH

Stillers by 10

LOSS, 24-17

4

Slop & slather against an inferior Pats team.Special teams blunders; a softee defense; and the stubborn insistence on using a fat, slow Bettis all helped to seal the defeat.

Jan. '03, vs. Clev

PGH

Stillers

W, 36-33

2

A pitiful, piss-poor outing against an entirely ONE-dimensional Clev offense that was using its BACKUP QB. Only a Cowher-coached team would allow a weak, clearly inferior Clev team to visit Heinz Field and run up & down the field like the Pitt marching band.

Jan. '03, @ Tenn

Tenn.

Titans, by very little

LOSS, 34-31 (OT)

4

Facing an injury-riddled Titans team, the Stillers were once again unable to stop an entirely ONE-dimensional offense.Special teams, always a Cowher flaw, once again helped to seal the defeat.

Jan. '05, vs. Jets

PGH

Pit, by 9-1/2

Win, 20-17

(OT)

1

Facing an injury-riddled, prohibitive underdog that had just come off 2 OT games, the Stillers played slop & slather. The Jets were missing star DE John Abraham and star DE Shaun Eliis missed a good chunk of the game.Only Doug Brien's 2 missed FGs in the last 2 minutes of the game prevented the Jets' win in regulation.A team stink of enormous magnitude, highlighted by yet another spec teams debacle in which 3 Stillers in punt coverage overran S. Moss, who then ran 75-yards for the TD.

Jan. 05, vs. NE

PGH

Stillers by 3

LOSS, 41-27

5

Got thoroughly whipped in every phase of the game, at HOME, against a team the Stillers had beaten earlier in the season. This loss featured all of the usual ingredients of a Cowher-led playoff failure: big plays by the opponent; horrific turnovers; slop and slather; inability to rush for yardage in crucial situations; poor intensity and execution.
