Porter Wins Weekly Hard
Hat Award (Game #9, vs Atl.)
Stiller
OLB Joey Porter is the winner of our weekly Hard Hat Award, given
to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude
of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
Porter
turned in another highlight reel game in which was all over the gridiron --
stopping ballcarriers, defending passes, and harassing and dropping QB Mike
Vick. It got to the point where it
almost seemed as though 2 Porter's were out there, because it seemed
inconceivable that just one defender could be all over the vast gridiron and
making play after play after play.
Porter tied with Scott for a team high 6 solos and 2 assists, along with
1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumbel recovery, and 2 passes defensed, but his impact and value went far
beyond raw numbers. Porter harried and
hurried Vick several times, using his adroit speed and quickness to chase down
the ever-dangerous Vick. Porter set the tone for the game -- the way a real LB
and real defensive leader is supposed to -- by blasting a sprinting Vick and
jarring the ball loose, and then having the presence to recover the ball and
advance it. Vick was a bit timid after that
tooth rattling shot. In what
was his "other" best play of the game, Porter relentlessly blasted
through the blocks of both a guard (K. Forney) and RB W. Dunn in the 3Q,
resulting in an int. grounding by Vick.
This kind of relentless, ferocious, hell-bent play by Porter is
precisely what the Hard Hat Award is based upon, and unquestionably Joey Porter
is THE LEADER on this Stillers defense.
Kudos
to Joey for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Joey !!
