Bettis Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #10, vs. Philly)
Stiller RB Jerome Bettis is the winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
Bettis had a superb outing against the Iggles, gaining 134 yards on 30 carries -- an impressive 4.5 yards a crack. What impressed me more as I broke down the tape, was the multi-faceted running Bettis did in this game. He combined just about everything you want to see in an NFL back -- vision; reading of blocks and holes; crisply cutting back when required; hitting the hole with authority; and ramming into would-be-tacklers with good forward-lean and power. I've seen Bettis run in every game he's played in a Stiller uniform, and this had to have been among his top 5 all-around efforts.
Kudos to Jerome for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Bus !!
